So you have tried both Windows 7 and XP? I believe that front panel does have it's own power, are you sure it's plugged in? Please check, I have one of these in one of my computers as well, will confirm for you here.

1st you check is your sound card driver install properly. OR Check your is your sound mute from sound card driver. Ive seen problems like this before ,Make sure under volume control property that the mic mute button

is ticked .

go install the old oct 06 drivers, yes there old but it solved my problems. mic boost start to work correctly again.
