what color are the spots and are they on every channel and every input. Do they move around or do they stay in the same spot. If the answer is yes to most of these questions then you have a bad DMD chip.

Projection TV sets have two very common problems. One is convergence ( 3D/Warped video) the other is CRT fluid ( Dull Video). Below are more details for both items. Also, complete repair kits with instructions and repair support are avail from site such as www.TvRepairKits.com

Common Problem #1) Convergence has gone out

Projection TV sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the video to look normal. When its out of alignment the video will look 3D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the TV menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired.

This is a very common failure on these projection sets and a fairly simple DIY fix. All projection sets including Samsung, RCA, Sony, Philip Magnavox, Panasonic, Pioneer, Akai, GE, JVC, Toshiba, and others at some point will have the same problem.

Common Symptoms include....

  • Screen looks 3D
  • Colors don't line up
  • One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
  • Screen is bowed or warped.
  • TV shuts off after powering on. Power light will blink. TV may also make a chirping noise.
Here are some pics of convergence problems.

Common Problem #2) CRT Fluid is Cloudy

Projection TV tubes have a liquid coolant that is used to keep them from overheating. After many years the coolant in the blue and green tubes will become cloudy and cause the screen to look dull, red/orange, etc. You may even see halos around images.

Hi i have a samsung

Hello Bart
Your Samsung DLP TV has a major fault. Three blinks of LED denotes that there is some fault in it video section. Power supply section is OK, and is working well, but after switch on, the main system miocrocomputer IC inside it detects a serious fault in video section, and gives you its indication as three concecutive LED blinks. If you want to rectify this fault by yourself at home, you must have enough testing equipemts to check the circuit, as well as it internal schematic diagram for reference. I can give you its internal circuit diagram yo you, but do you have a sound knoledge in digital electroncis, and ability to follow the circuit digram, identifying the test points, is a matter. If you have all these, send your Email address to me by Fixya, so that I can send the schematic diagram to you for reference. It is a large file, and can't be send by this site, as it exceeds the limit.
One more thing I've to advice you is that, it is a DLP based tv [Digital Light Processing], and its DLP chip contains millions of tiny electrostaticlay deflected mirrors, a more complicated chip, and is very colstly. Sometimes, availablity is also rare, as Texas Instruments only makes these now. It is ver easly damged by improper handling of circuit boards too. So without sound knoledge about its working and precutions to be taken while servicing DLP TVs, never attempt to repair it easly as we do on other CRT based or LCD based TVs. OK.

Hi I have a Hl-s5679w

Yes you would. On the power supply board under the heat sink. Do not upgrade the UF but you can upgrade the volts so if the caps say 10v 2200uf go to the 16v 2200uf and always make sure they are 105c degrees.

I have a Samsung 56"

Actually the Samsung model you have was the first model to come out in 2006 that did not have a color wheel. The LED blinking is actually a self diagnostic program of sorts. Depending on which lights are blinking, and how often, the service manual will tell you where you should start checking or replacing parts and assemblies. I do have most of the codes, so can you tell me if the if the LED light is the only one flashing, how long it flashes, and do any other lights flash at all? Thank you.

Samsung HL-S5679W flickering. stops when you hit

Hello
Your samsung DLP TV has some loose contacts inside it. Most of the interconnections are of plunged in types. If the plung in connections become loose, this type of fault may occur. You just open it, and just pullout and rplugh in each plungin connections and replug it to it. Jut do it one at a time, and do for the all. Especially power regulator board will have this type of loose contacts occur. Do it catiously and with patience. Before doing these, don't forget to unplug the Tv from wall power socket. If you wants further assistance, feel free to contact me through Fixya. OK.

I need a new power

I had a similar problem with my 42 in Philips LCD HDTV.

Here was the problem. My Power Supply Board had several bad capacitors. I opened my TV (warranty was expired of course) and found four bulged capacitors on the PSB. Many major electronics companies Philips/Magnavox, Sony, Panasonic, and others were sold capacitors that failed in 2-5 years instead of 10-20. The capacitors fail prematurely due to a lack of preservatives. Unfortunately, they were installed in all sorts of devices and cause a wide range of failure problems.

Here are some options for you.

1. Have it fixed by a professional $$$$$$$??????? (Is it under warranty?)

2. Open your TV and find PSB. (The board that the power cord plugs into) Check for faulty caps. If you find some (bulged or leaking) bad caps replace the entire board. The entire board costs around $250 right now because they are in high demand right now. They can be found at tv-part.com but supplies are limited. I would definitely shop around though.

3. Remove and then replace individual faulty caps. This takes some soldering skill.

Caps are inexpensive and if you can take care of it yourself it will save you hundreds.

This may be your problem. If you determine that it might be.

I have a Tip/How TO tutorial on this site that may also help. It gives step by step instructions for replacing caps on PSB #715t2432-2. If this is your board you are in luck. It's called: Fixing the Philips Turns/shuts off on its own problem. I'm working on uploading pictures to help guide people though the process as well. Let me know if I can do anything to help.

Hope this helps and if it does please rate it accordingly. Good luck.
