When you turn off the set listen carefully... If the noise stops abruptly it's the color wheel, if it winds down a bit after you press power off it's a bad fan..

I have a Samsung HL-S5087W rear projection tv that
Hello,
A common problem for these is bad capacitors in the power supply, Remove the back from your TV and look at the power supply on the left hand side.
You will see roughly around 9 x capacitors that are bulged / domed shaped on top usually these are valued at 3300uf 10V any that have bulged or leaked a brown like substance should be changed.
This will cure the problem as they overheat being sat next to a heatsink that gets very hot!
Try and change them for the same 3300uf but a higher voltage.
I hope this help in solving the problem...Take care........

After replaceing blown bulb, new bulb still does not come on.
Hi
Thanks for using FixYa. If the sound is coming
fine that means that the issue could be the ballast itself going bad. Also you
should check out the lamp first as if that’s fine then the ballast should not
be replaced. Also the DMD Board should be checked as the DMD board
controls telling the ballast when to turn on so if it went bad it definitely
could cause the ballast not to light the lamp. Please do
accept the solution if the issue is resolved or else revert for further
assistance.
Thanks

Random shut-off
The number one thing I have found with intermitent shutdown is the lamp door switch in the up position.
This series of models came back from the factory with the switch in the up position and it needs to be in the down position.
Take a flash light and look through the slots on the lower left side of the lamp door in the back of the set. If you can see the top of switch, then, thats whats causing your problem.
Take off the door, there is a tab that holds the switch down. Reseat the door and check the switch again with a flashlight. If it is down, then the problem is solved. If it is up, try again.
If you have anymore problems or questions, reply to this post and I will respond.

Samsung dlp dnie
just from personal exp the easiest thing to do may fix or at least make it better. if u see puffed and leaky caps on power supply replace capacitors. if really dusty clean. both previously mentioned and both helped me. my tv was completely dead and replacing caps got it to power back up and work. it takes two trys to come on but works great so far. then i cleaned every nook and cranny with a small vacuum hose and different size/angle brushes that could be attached to hose. i only took out the psb board with caps and didnt touch anything in there that i could mess up. just cleaning helped enhance the colors. right now this is the best picture ive had on a tv and it was completly dead when i got it.
