Broken electric eye on garage door opener. How to

The eyes do not stop the door from opening - They only work on the close cycle.

If the door will not open at all it may have a broken spring. Try unhooking the door from the opener.

If it works manually try the opener with the door unhooked.

NOTE: holding down the wall button overrides the safety eyes. This is the only bypass available (you need to get a new eye to replace the broken one.

Hope this helps

My garage door opener beeps

Hello,
Sounds to me like your backup batteries are low. The back up batteries are there for use should you use power. You can try this -
  1. Unplug the garage door opener.
  2. Get into the back up battery compartment.
  3. Now unplug the connector to the battery pack and replug it in. This might help but if you continue to have this beeping then you will have to replace the backup batteries. You will not suffer any mechanical problems unless your electricity goes out.
Regards, Tony

I installed a new garage

Hi Diane.... yes. Newer garage door openers don't have changeable codes inside the unit or transmitters. You use the learn button to erase all the memory & to program transmitters into the unit. Each transmitter has a unique signal permanently set at the factory.
If you have had your garage door opener for a few years, you have to make a change on the back of the motor unit up by the ceiling and in the remote[s] by changing one or more tiny switches, called dip switches. Open up the remote and and take a look. If you have the dip switches, a series of tiny rocker switches that can rock one way or the other, then just change one or more of them to the opposite side and do the same with the set of dip switches on the back of the motor in the garage that moves the door.

If you have a newer system, one with no dip switches, you will just erase the memory and reprogram it with a new memory. To do that:

Programming Steps: 1) Locate the smart button on the motor head which is directly under the screw terminals where the push button and photo-cell wires connect to the unit and above the antenna wire. You may have to remove a lens or light cover to gain access to the learn button. 2) Push the smart button momentarily (Holding the smart button until the L.E.D. light beside the button goes out will erase all transmitter and keyless entries that are programmed into the unit) and verify the
L.E.D. light next to the button is lit solid. 3) Push the transmitter button that you want to use for that door within thirty seconds and before the
L.E.D. goes out. The L.E.D. will flash once and the transmitter will operate the door the next time the button is pushed. 4) If you have more than one door and a multi-button transmitter repeat steps 2-3 above for each door by using a different transmitter button for each unit. (Using the same button for more then one door at the same location will cause all the doors using that button to open and close at the same time and is not recommended.) The openers normally come with a single or a 3-button transmitter but 2-button and
4-button transmitters are also available as an option. 5) Repeat steps 2-3 above if you have more than one transmitter to program into your garage door opener.

My chamberlan garage door opener keeps beeping

The only thing on a chamberlain garage door opener that can beep is the battery back up unit. It beeps if it is being used or if it has lost it's charge or if it has lost the power to be charged. There is also an led light that will give you information on the status up by the battery too. These will be in your manual to decipher. You can get a new battery at chamberlain.com Thanks BB

The garage door opener gets stuck several times

DOES IT HAVE A BROKEN SPRING???

IF NOT YOU COULD TRY ADJUSTING THE UP OR OPEN SENSITIVITY ABOUT 1/8 TURN CLOCKWISE.

IF THIS DOESN'T SOLVE THE PROBLEM I WOULD CALL A SERVICE TECH. - YOU CAN CHASE A PROBLEM LIKE THAT FOR WEEKS WHEN A GOOD DOOR TECH CAN FOX IT IN 30 MIN.

HOPE THIS HELPS

My chamberlain garage door opener opens

Anytime a door opens and/or closes randomly or doesn't work consistently I look for a smashed wire between the motor unit and the wall button.

If the wire is smashed the insulation becomes so thin that power will leak thru the insulation and activate the door or interfere with the remote signal.

Loosen the staples with a small screwdriver and slide the wire about ½ inch to move any areas of thin insulation away from the staples.

The second thing would be a bad wall button or a remote with a sticking button.

Or a remote in someone
