Generally all portable tool batteries slide into position until a click is heard alerting us that it is locked in position & just wont come falling out in use, look @ the manually closely & follow the steps ( you'll get it! Is it for a Grass Hog, Model CST 2000? If it is, I have the handle( 243215-00), battery ( 243213-00), wall mount ( 243476-00)and mount & charger( 243248-00).All are used but in very good condition.

How do you replace the white lever, and how do you know if it is broken?

You do not need to bump the head to advance the line. The machine has automatic line feed. If the line will not advance, then there is a problem with the line spool, possibly a tangle inside on it. Here is your instruction manual.

John the cord your using may just be a bad batch or cheaper one. Go and try a better quality brand.

make sure the string is correct in size and then suspect a defective head assy

Lee it's possible the brushes are worn. Check and see if they are worn.
