Your can perform a factory reset by inserting a paper clip tip in the the small reset hole for 10 sec while powered on. You will have to configure the router fro scratch.

How do I connect to wireless internet from laptop

Look under network connections and open wireless connections. Then look for you router SSID (network name) and the press connect button. If password/key is needed enter that at this time. Make certain your laptop wireless is turned on - some have an physical on/off switch.

Problem with DSL2640U wireless router

Login in using your browser and go to the wireless settings and set-up a wireless password/key. Remember the key because each device will now need it to connect. You can also turn OFF Broadcast SSID and your network name will not be shown on anyone's device. You must remember the network name when using this method.

Which is the latest firmware

Make sure you download the correct firmware for you Hardware. Usually you can login on your browser to you router and go to the management section to check for firmware updates and select that button and it will download and install the firmware. On some models, you have to go to the D-link web site and look for firmware updates for your router. Always check what you current firmware you have installed and check the version of you router modem hardware (A, B, C etc). Then you can manually download the firmware (usually in a ZIP file), open the zip file, and then using your browser connected to the router look for Update Firmware. You will have to go to where (folder) you saved the downloaded update and select that file. It is recommended that you update using a LAN connection and not a wireless connection.

Router won't recognise my new Kindle

First try rebooting the router to see if it "see' the kindle. Make certain use are using the correct network password/key - it is case sensitive. Does the Kindle connect to other WiFi networks? If not the Kindle may be the issue The ultimate answer is a factory reset of the router.
