I had the same problem - a 10 minute fix. The issue tends to be that the trap gets clogged by debris (like broken glass etc.) and restricts the amount of water that can be evacuated by the tub.

1. Undo the trap cover (two hex headed screws)
2. Remove the trap cover
3. Remove the inner trap grate
4. BE CAREFUL NOW ! Gently remove debris - this can have broken glass in it !!! - You can use a wet vac if you have one. Ensure all debrs is removed and the trap is clear.
5. Clean trap cover and grate
6. Re-install cover and grate
7. Bingo !

Use vinegar it will get rid of the smell

It's most likely the timer set the timer to when it is gonna fill to a normal wash hook up a volt meter when it is in its fill stage make sure it is putting out 120 volts

Yes it should if it doesn't make sure the dishwasher is sitting level if not adjust the little legs under it to make it level

It's either a bad timer or it's getting no power

Your soap is clotting because there isn't enough water being sprayed around inside.  The water spray washes the soap out of the dish, if all is working well.  My machine had the same problem.  I had sufficient water level, but the spray head wasn't spinning very well.  I found the end-most hole in the spray bar to be plugged.  It is the end hole that provides a jet that makes the head spin.  I cleaned a bunch of debris out of the hole and the mchine started working and cleaning like it was new.  That was quite an axccomplishment since the machine is 15 years old.

It would be fine to use a "toxic" lubricant as long as it wasn't oil based. Also, run the washer at least three to four times empty before using it on dishes.

Seems like the pump is not pumping water in well or out , it could be clogged or waring out

Yes it only uses hot water. There should be a 3/8 fitting to hook up a water line. The drain hose connects to the air gap on the sink and when hooking up the power if there is no power cord be sure to hook up the black to black, white to white, and green to the green or bare wire.

Model # should be on inside of tub wall....but any way...

This is a typical GE problem which I have seen many times...When a DW sets for a while not being used...the motor often freezes up....Take the front (lower panel off....find the motor assembly...(with the DW unplugged!!...very important)reach in with you hand or a screw driver...preferably your hand...at the back of the motor...there should be a impeller blade...you should be able to reach in with a finger and pull it down..it may be resistant so find a way to hold it in place as you reach up to the next impller blade and pull down further...finally it will all of a sudden free up....after which you plug it back in and start it up...I am also including a step by step (no drain problem check list as you may run into an issue like this if it has not been operated for a while ....notice article # 5).


1. Air gap / Drain hoses
If there is an air gap (located in the sink, near the faucet), check to see if it is clogged. Unscrew the top cap and see if there is anything blocking inside. Note: If there is no air gap installed, the dishwasher might not drain properly.

If the drain hose is clogged, the dishwasher would not drain. If there is an air gap installed, it is very common that a hose going from the air gap into the garbage disposer is clogged. Remove and clean the hose. Make sure to reattach the hose before starting the dishwasher.

Note: If you recently had a garbage disposer installed, it is common to overlook removing the drain plug.

2. Broken belt
Some dishwasher models use a belt to drive the pump. Replace the belt if found broken.

Note: Sometimes the belt would just come off the pump. Even though it might not be broken, it is recommended that you replace the belt, because it is probably too stretched out.

3. Pump
Some models have two impellers inside the pump - one, wash impeller, takes care of the wash cycles, the other, drain impeller, drains the water out. If the drain impeller is broken (broken blades, shaft), the dishwasher would not drain. Replace any broken pump components.

4. Drain solenoid
Some models (for example most GE dishwashers) use a drain solenoid to drain water out. Sometimes the solenoid gets stuck, preventing the water from draining out. Try to free up the solenoid. If unsuccessful, you might have to replace the pump assembly.

5. Motor
If the motor is stuck, it is sometimes possible to free it up by manually spinning the motor.

Replace the motor if defective.

6. Timer
Replace if defective (note: uncommon problem).
