Have several Simpletech 250 GB drives. All are

Hi You don't say how all these devices are connected at any one moment in time, whether you use a USB hub to plug multiple devices in simultaneously or whether your otherwise detailed and very good description of the background to the fault applies even when nothing else but the problematic drive is plugged into the laptop, or whether you use the same or different USB cables with the different drives and the different computers. It's worth eliminating a USB Port fault or a USB Hub overload or a USB cable fault as the potential causes of the problem, if you have not already done so. USB is a relatively limited technology in Data Transfer Speed terms and is susceptible to Data bottleneck problems leading to read/write errors in external drives. The Simple Tech case contains a controller card. The Simple Tech controller card may be faulty or failing due to an accumulation of such read/write errors and is probably not communicating well with the Lenovo's Operating System. Because of Temporary Files and Error Reports created whenever a read/write errors occur, The Lenovo 'remembers' the problematic drives electronic signature from the last connection and also remembers its response and therefore defaults back to the same reaction most times you connect the drive in question. The drive has no 'history' with the Dell, so no problems arise when it's connected there. The other drives might be mechanically identical, but the internal controller board of each has a different electronic signature. The controller card has a chip on it that contains information in it that identifies what type of device it is to your operating system and then invites the Drivers for the device to start intermediating between the device and the operating system. Some error in the interface between that chip and the Lenovo is causing your problem. It is purposeless to continue using the problematic SimpleTech Enclosure with your Lenovo Laptop. You have already alighted on the best, simplest and most practical solution -re-house the problematic drive in a good quality, well ventilated new enclosure. The controller in the Eagle case also has no 'history' with the Lenovo, hence the clean response. For intellectual curiosity, you could swap the hard drives around in two of the Simple Tech cases to see what happens. Also there might be a Firmware update for the problematic SimpleTech Case that might flash and overwrite the Controller card main chip. I am unable to check this for you as I would need the Drive's part Number. This is the relevant site: http://www.hitachigst.com/support/index-files/simpletech-legacy-downloads

I hope this helps.

Computer wont recognize hard drive and drive keeps

the clicking noise is the reader arm jumping across platters on your hard drive you have a dirty hard drive first clean all the dust from your computer specifically from around your hard drive using a high powered sucksion vacuum cleaner or a fine air blower from a air compressor making sure there is no moisture in the air lines then give the hard drive a firm tap on the side to free it up
hope this helps good luck
the beeping sound is the post system searching for your hard drive and other connected devices
try replacing all the leads that attach to your hard drive including electrical extensions + IDE,SATA and the ones that attach from your motherboard to hard drive
make sure all leads that are attached to your drives dvd\cd 3 1/2 inch floppy have secure connections and are not faulty or just replace them they are probably old and faulty ?

Hi, I'm trying to do a backup of my photos, documents and music, but am unable to locate those itmes on the C Drive.Any suggestions?

you can use the windows search option to be able to find those files, but that will take a long time. you can use a backup drive or a backup software, they are almost reliable. if the files are important, then i would recommend taking a backup with the help of a technician. My external drive will not open on my new HP computer

Unplug the external. Then Try rebooting cold. When the computer stops +30 sec. Reboot the computer and plug the external when you see the HP splash screen.
  • If that does not work, make sure you have the drivers for the ext. for your configuration. Win 8, 8.1?
  • You can go to the site where your external was developed at and make sure you have latest drivers and if there is a problem associated with your device.
  • On newer machines there is also 3.0 USB connections. While it should not make any major difference, make sure that your ext. is not plugged into a 3.0 USB. The 3.0 USB is blue in color.

Can SimpleTech runs on 220 voltage

Not enough info..... Ask Simpletech. I Dont use simple tech brand but it usually is similar to other products. Most Hard Drive Boxes are connected to a Power Pak that goes into the AC wall outlet to drop the power down to low DC voltage. Most power pak's handle 110 & 220 ac these days. Read the tiny writing on the power pak label. It's usually marked as input & output. Good Luck
