Western Digital Caviar SE16 (WD5000AAKS) 500 GB SATA Hard Drive Questions & Answers
500 gb and only available 32 gb
Your bios is too old. Put the drive into an external USB case and it will recognize the full capacity of the drive. You can get a case from any store that sells computer parts.
WD5000aaks western digital 500GB HDD motor not spining,
Try reseating the power connector for the drive. You can try another unused connector if it will reach. Do the same for the data cable. Reseat both ends of the cable a couple of times to shine up the contacts. If none of this works, then a data recovery service will be needed.
Hard drive erased? or Bad? maybe both?
Hi,
Yes, HD is bad. When enabled, your PC sees it but takes along time finding contents and when contents found, will not be able to read it. If it contains important data, best is you use a data recovery software such as GetDataBack available at www.runtime.org. If recovered or will not allow you to, try deleting partition and/or reformat. Thereafter do a Scandisk.
On a similar problem, took me close to 48 hrs to recover movies and MP3s (at least most of them). Used Partition Magic to partition, format. and when I used Norton Utilities Disk Doctor, a lot of bad sectors showed up. I ended simply replacing since I already purchased another where the recovery was saved.
Hope this be of help to you.
I hope you have better luck.
I have an error code
BIOHD-8 is a SMART drive error code. It's issued when SMART thinks your drive is failing. Doing some research it seems that there have been issues with HP computers and this error code occurring but nobody seems to know why.
If you believe that the hard drive is not faulty access the BIOS and look for the option HDD SMART Enable (or similar) and disable it.to enter the BIOS during the boot process you will see for a short amount of time to press a certain key to enter set up press and hold that key to enter set up(BIOS)
Do a reboot then get into the operating system and select the C: hard drive properties. On the tools page you will find a hard drive right click select properties tools place a tick in both boxes run it and it will tell you it cannot run as the drive is in use. It will then ask you if you wish to reschedule a test on reboot. Select that option and reboot the machine. This will report and fix and drive protocol errors that have occurred but it will NOT repair the drive if the mechanics are faulty. Replacement is the only way to fix that.
hope this helps

You need to go to your computer manufacturers support-driver site and look your model up, then put in your operating system and search for drivers. In the drivers column, you need to find the download for an updated BIOS. Download this file and run its self-executable program and flash your systems BIOS. The new BIOS will allow your system to see large hard drives...right now your system has a limit of 132 GB.

Use wd5000 from an HP as External
The best way is to use a desktop system. Leave one hard drive plugged into the primary IDE connector and unplug the CD-rom from the secondary connector and plug the other hard drive into that cable. Reboot your computer and they will show as a C and D drive.
Is not showing up in the computer
go to control panel, then administrative tool, then to computer management, then to disk management, check the status of your hard drive or check it on some others system
External HD beeps and clicks and not recognized by comp
its better take it to the service centre , some times when the problem is in the card it can be changed , but if the problem is internal, thens its a seriou problem, there are data recovery centres which can recover your data
WD5000AAKS not recognized
take it apart and get a bridge cable called IDE to USB or ATA to USB.
Connect the cable to your PC and take out the files.
WD 500g hard drive computer cant read it
Hello pacificus.
1. In one of your desktop pc, try to connect the WD 500g HDD (using IDE/SATA cable + power) .
2. try to go to your BIOS setup ( restart your pc , then during restart, press and hold F1 key. The main menu of BIOS setup utility opens)
3. Check if the WD 500g is being detected by the PC motherboard.
- if its detected, then you have no choice but to reformat it using WD disk utility ( got to WD website).
- if its not detected, then you have to RMA (return merchandise authorization) from the store where you bought it. I think WD gives 3 year warranty for their hard drive ( not sure but try to inquire).
For data that are stored in the Hard drive...well..you may want do som file recovery if the Hard drive can still be detected by BIOS of the motherboard of your pc.
Hope this helps...

RETRIEVING DATA FROM CRUSHED SATA HDD
I almost passed up this question, as I have to admit that I did not want to be the bearer of bad news.
Unless the value of the data is sufficiently a large number, and you have not backed up the drive, you
have even worse news ahead of you, with respect to the cost of data retrieval.
Disks are very inexpensive, these days, so I would advise a Redundant Array of Inexpensive Disks (RAID)
system for your present and future consideration.
Wd problems
Change the drive letters, worked for me. I have 2 WD My Books, I made one R: and one S: worked fine after that. On vista go to Control Panel -> Classic View -> Admin Tools -> Computer Management -> Disk Management -> Right click on WD drive and change letter. For some reason G, F, E, ect seem to run into some problems
