I am assuming you are referring to an external hard drive. This is becoming a more commonplace occurrence now that there are more and more of these devices out there and they are starting to age slightly. The drives inside these enclosures are the very same drives you will find in desktop and/or laptop computers, depending upon the physical size of the drive enclosure. Unfortunately, the majority of these enclosures

1. provide very poor shock protection
2. provide almost no ventilation (cooling)

Add to that the fact that they have an additional circuit board inside to convert from SATA to USB which has an unacceptably high failure rate, and you have a recipe for disaster. All is not lost, however. If your drive is still under warranty, you can get it repaired or replaced.....with the great possibility of losing any and data that was on it. Most folks don't like this option. You can crack open the case and remove the hard drive within. You can then insert it in a docking station or install it in a desktop PC and try to recover your files. More and more folks are getting upset with the shorter life span and even shorter warranty of the SATA drives being manufactured today. There was a time when manufacturers routinely warranted their drives for five years. Today most only have a one year warranty...a few go as high as three. You'll pay a bit more for the three year drive though. Makes me yearn for the old PATA drives......

If you run windows, go to: Control Panel > Folder Options > "View" Tab > Check " View Hidden Files" & UnCheck "Hide Protected Operating System Files" Then open your GoFlex and see what is in there.

If you read through your HDTVs manual you will find that it only supports FAT32 ~ maybe also NTFS. Mac OS Extended Journal (HFS+) is a proprietary file system and even a Windows PC can't read it without the appropriate tools or drivers installed ~ let alone a TV. Again, this will delete all data from the drive so you will want to backup it beforehand.

Some have a external power cord plug it in to a power point .others are powered up by the USB port. Connect it to a USB port and power it up . When you back up a copy of your files or images, they are copied to your back up medium, they are not removed from the computer . If you have deleted them they can reinstalled from the back up.

Try turning off your firewall and installing it at that point. Once it is back in the mix turn your firewall back on.

follow these steps:

1. Make sure the computer and external hard drive are powered on.
2. Safely remove the drive from the computer (if possible).
3. Disconnect the external drive's USB or FireWire cable.
4. Disconnect the power supply plug from the external drive.
5. Power off the computer.
6. Disconnect the computer's power supply cord for 60 seconds.
7. Reconnect the computer.
8. Power on the computer.
9. Connect the power supply to the external drive.
10. Connect the drive's USB or FireWire cable and check for detection.

If that does not correct the behavior, and if the drive is also not detected by your computer, the blinking light is probably a symptom of a larger problem. If those steps do not return the drive to correct function, it is very possible, even probable, that the drive has failed and needs to be replaced

I'd suggest you take it to a reliable computer store in your area and see what they can recover. If you have nothing on it you want to save, just replace it.

You will need a program such as Acronis True Image to change the 1000GB drive to a secondary drive if it is the boot drive.

Inability to format doesn't necessarily suggest a firmware issue, if this doesn't solve the issue, the drive may have failed. Let us know how you make out.

Hard wire into your router, enter ip address and then user name and password or factory default. Change password security to none, save settings, cycle power on router. This will clear secutiy on router and now repeat the above steps and enable secutity and assign password.
