Western Digital 500GB My Book World Edition 500 GB Hard Drive Questions & Answers
I have a WD ext.
If these clicking sounds weren't there before, it probably means the drive failed (it's common when hard disk fails to have a clicking noise). There's hardly anything you can do, altough i would first test with another power supply and another usb cable if avaiable. In the case you really need the files in it, you'll have to find a data recovery company to send your drive (hard disk are delicate and require special conditions and tools to repair).
After 5 minutes, my 500 GB book is only accessible in read mode.
Hey, last week I returned my mybook and requested a new one. They would give me a new one dirictly but they where out of stock. I've got a new one yesterday, and I'm trying it right now. For so long I have no problems. I've already copied 7GB. So the best solution: Get a new one. If i have further problems, i'll let u guys know.
WD 500 GB external hard drive problem -- works for 10 minutes
Here is another trick to help retrieve your important data. Put the hard drive in a zip lock baggie that's air tight and stick the drive in the fridge overnight. Next day as quickly as possible hook the drive up and try to get more of your data off before the drive warms back up and quits. This works! Some even freeze the drive, but try just in the fridge first. Good luck on the data gathering. Once other trick is to look at the controller board model number and try and find the exact same drive controller on Ebay or even the exact same drive and swap out the controller board. Most likely the controller is your problem, but it could also be defective sectors and that's a big problem. good luck.

I have deleted some files
If you are using windows, files are transferred to the Recycle Bin before permanent deletion unless they are too large, in which case they are permanently deleted.
After permanent deletion, recovery is not possible without specialist reconstruction software and even then may be very difficult or impossible, especially if the drive has been defragmented or formatted
Can't access my share folders
Drive management show only safely remove usb drive.
When u use mionet software it map the share to a drive letter. If u create folder or files on that drive u dont have permission to chance those files or folders on \\mybookworld.
Solution, dont use mionet software.
