WHat you could do is test other usb ports on the system or you will have to remove the drive from the caddy and install it as a slave inside your pc and see if you can access the data,
If you can then you know its the caddy at fault

Here is another possibility that i found on another forum

"I was playing around in Device Manager, unplugging and replugging the hard drive. Finally I found that although it wasn't listed under Disk Drives or Removable Storage
, it was listed under USB controllers. It had a little x on the icon. Upon right clicking it I found that it had somehow become disabled on my computer. I'm not sure how that happened. I know I didn't do it."
or you can try this
Try this fix for missing usb ports by JohnWill

Create a file with NOTEPAD containing the following lines and save it as FIX.REG
-------------------------- Use text after this line --------------------------------
REGEDIT4

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Environment]

"DEVMGR_SHOW_NONPRESENT_DEVICES"="1"
-------------------------- Use text before this line --------------------------------

Double click on FIX.REG and say yes to the Merge Into Registry question.

Unplug ALL USB devices.
Open Device Manager.
View, Show Hidden Devices.
Uninstall all devices under USB Controllers.
Uninstall all devices under Disk Drives that you know are not present.
Uninstall all devices under Storage Volumes. Say no to any reboot prompts until you are finished. Also, if a Storage Volume doesn't uninstall, ignore it and move to the next one.
If you have a yellow ? with unknown devices, uninstall all of the entries there as well.

When this is done, reboot TWICE.

Reconnect the USB devices and see if they're recognized properly.

NOTE: If you have a USB keyboard and/or mouse, you'll have to modify the instructions and leave enough parts for those to function.

Computer does not recognize mY SEAGATE BARRACUDA 7200. 11 500 GB

Try using your SEAGATE Hard Disk on another PC , if it works then you have one of these problems,
1. Your USB Port in your PC (Or Laptop) is broken and you have to get another one*
2. You have a software problem (Try reinstalling your OS or scan for viruses).
3. The USB Cable has a problem (get a new one).

(*) some technician can replace your USB port or fix it, or you can buy a "USB Hub"

Cant open files in seagate drive

The first thing to do is to remove all the connections and re-insert them. Power and USB are the usual connections. You might try eSATA if you have the module. This is an old drive and even with only infrequent use, due to the lack of cooling on the drive, these will have an early failure. If you put your ear really close to the drive, do you hear a spin/stop/spin/stop sequence. Like the drive is spinning up and then stopping over an over? If so, that may indicate a crashed drive. Do you hear another noise or no noise at all?

FreeAgent Pro USB broken -- need data from Momentus drive

Momentus is a SATA drive, so you can put it in any PC that has SATA bus to access the drive. If you can borrow a SATA to USB dock, you can put it in the dock and plug the dock to USB port on a computer to get your data out the drive. One example for the USB dock is EZ-dock and you can search on Internet for the picture.

Is there a reader for backup files you do not want to restore

You need the software that you used to back it up unless you simply copied files directly. Most backup software creates it own backup format and extension that only its restore software or emergency boot disk can read.

My drive is 200gb, only one folder of 12gb not showing what to do ?

If you recently ran a scandisk or disk diagnostic in this drive, it is possible that there was a bad sector on the drive and it involved the 12gb folder. In a case like this, I like to either make an exact copy of the drive using a utility like Norton's ghost or pull the drive out of the computer and connect it to another computer. Sometimes the main drive does not allow you to access certain folders because it contains critical system files. The other thing to make certain of is that you are signed in under the administrator account.
