Connection keeps turning off
I would take the phone back, mainly for the radio issue. I have seen that issue before and it is usually hardware related. And the fact that it is a refurbished unit probably indicates that it is hardware related.
Have them replace it noting the errors you have been experiencing.

First of all try restarting your device it may need a restart to show. If that doesn't work are you hiding some of your icons? check but hitting the menu button and selecting show all. If this doesn't fix it try going into your options and check your applications and see if messenger is there. If it isn't hook your device up to your computer and using desktop manager update your applications
Problem with finding contacts on handheld
I suspect you have a Filter "on". If you see a bar right under the "Find:" prompt, that has a name in it, not a contact name, but rather a filter name, then this will be the reason the "P" search is not finding anything because a "P" record doesn't exist in this filter group.
Click on the Menu button (the one immediately to the left of the track ball, scroll and click on the Filter menu item just under the Help menu item. Scroll through your list of filter groups and make sure none of them are "checked". If one ore more are checked, un-check them all and retry your steps from the beginning.
8100 rollerball wont scroll down
sounds like the ball is gummed up.. there are several sites that will show, with pics, how to remove the ball assembly and tear it apart to clean it... but be careful.. it is not as easy as it looks.. i ended up buying a new ball off of ebay for under $12 shipped.. so i suggest that route

Bb 8100 unlock code
you will need to contact your service provider...it is free but it will take a few days to get the code back if they have tot contact the manufacterer....but you need the 16 diget code......after you get that, go to options, advanced options, sim card, type MEPPD. scroll to sim card, type MEP and pres the ALT key and then the 2 key.
if that doesnt work, instead of typing MEP2, try pressing and holding the ATL key and type MEPPE
if this works, a window will pop up asking for the unlock code....
