Instructions taken directly from the Garmin website

How to Install:

1. Connect your Garmin GPS device to your computer.
2. Click Download.
3. Click Open, if necessary.
4. Click Extract.
5. Browse to find the “Garmin/vehicle” folder on the Garmin drive. You may need to create the vehicle folder.
6. Double-click the Unplug or Eject icon in your system tray. Click Stop, and then click OK.
7. Unplug the USB cable from your Garmin GPS device.

Use the allen wrench to remove the battery. Let stand for 5 minutes and replace the battery. It should start fine. Mine has done this 3 times since I purchased it.

my battery failed after less than a year of use. Garmin sent me a new battery and the unit is working fine now. The old battery would not provide ANY power to the unit.

Try to push the power the + button, it should restart

I now this issue, and it's quite easy to work around, right mouse click on the executable and select run as administrator.

to reset the c550 place your thumbnail in the groove located under the garmin logo on the faceplate. Gently pull off the faceplate and press the reset button then connect to a power source and the unit should automaticly turn back on.

You should be, Check to make sure the fuse isnt blown on either the cigarette lighter plug or in the plug that has the wires coming out of it.

Hmmm, the Zumo doesn't have a harddrive, it's flash memory. The best place to store mp3's is on a fast SD card, and don't get the biggest size and cram it full, I had like 100 mp3's on a card adding up to almost 450 mins of music, started up without a problem. Not as fast but pretty snappy!

I don't think so, They only cater for Apple and Windows at Garmin.

Remove the battery an leave it out for about 10 minutes, then put the battery back, should startup....Oh yeah, if you have an sd card installed remove it.

Did you drain the battery completly? Have you tried another battery yet? I've come across this issue once, seems the owner drained the battery completly. Leaving it hooked to the mains with the mains charger for almost a day did solve the issue. I'd try a new battery first.

My Zumo would not start after a normal shutdown. I removed the battery and left it for a few minutes, reconnected battery and it started OK. I guess it locked up for some unknown reason.

My friend had the same issue as you mention. Puts his Zumo 550 on his bike only to have it discharge in a few hours. He later found out the pins on his motorcycle cradle had corroded and therefore was not keeping the Zumo charged. His solution was to purchase a new motorcycle cradle at about $100.00 CDN.

I had a similar problem when I first connected my Cardo Scala Rider set to the helmet. First off, make sure that the volume on the Zumo is set to 100% for BOTH guidance and mp3 functions. Then click the upper control on the Cado Scala to maximize the volume of the headset. When you've accomplished those two electronic hurdles, adjust the location of the speakers in the helmet - if location of the speakers is not optimized nothing you do with the electronics will have much effect. I typically run the mp3 volume at 20% and the GPS at 50% with the headset volume at halfway. My Cardo Scala unit is a Teamset and I sometimes have problems hearing my rider scream that I'm going too fast. I haven't bothered yet to tell her to keep the microphone closer to her lips.

Any other devices giving you usb problems....and what copmputer and operating system are you using? The correct USB drivers are on the DVD supplied with the Garmin GPS in the folder USB_Drivers

Try the garmin webupdater with the unit connected to the computer to see if your bluetooth firmware is the latest. Beware however, I lost phonebook functionality!

Assuming that you cannot switch it off and on again, try removing the battery for a couple of minutes before re installing. Failing that a cold reboot my work ..... with the unit switch off press and hold the bottom right corner of the touch screen and the press the power button. The Zumo splash screen should appear....continue to hold the botton right corner until the reset default screen instrution appear and follow them. This has work in the passed.
If you have recently download a latest software via the Garmin web updater this can sometimes cause conflicts and you may need to re-install a prervious version. from the Garmin link attached.
