Hi mike harris, i think your TV is on demonstration mode. To turn off the demo mode, press and hold the HOME or MENU button on the TV for more than 10 seconds. The messageDemo mode: Off will appear on the screen. NOTES:

From my experience with sony tv it's normal.The set is going through update mode.Leave the set for about 10 minutes and it should be back to normal.
