please be more explicit in describing the problem ..and also specify the model of the device and what you want to try and what operation system you use..All I can see here is that you can not download audio books..but from where ?? in what format ??

MP3 players can only play music files in mp3 file format. You can download mp3 music files from the Internet toyour computer and then copy them to your MP3 player. For your CD collection, you need to convert your CDs tomp3 music files onto your computer or download them from the Internet and thencopy them to your MP3 player.
You can do this using Windows Media player and Rip the CDs - Media Player willcreate a MP3 music file for each music track.

are you sure the files are in a format that is playable by the archos media player? what model is it, and what is the file extension of the music files

It is very unlikely to be caused by a virus. Try reseting the device. If that does not work then try clearing out the player and loading all of the music back onto it.

Ok this is a sort of fix for this problem.
You have to edit a mp3 file with a mp3 editor and make the mp3 you have selected 00.01 of a second long.
Rename it a 1.
So when the player has a fot and want to play number 1 file it will actually appear not to and move on to another song.
Yes simple but it works a treat, my new archos had this problem and this is how i sorted it.

Does the MP3 player charge when it is plugged into the system?
if not then you may need a different USB lead, if it DOES charge, it may be the case that the device is formatted in a way that prevents computers (or playstations etc.) accessing music without certain software. my personal solution for this was to put all of your music from your computer onto a USB stick and copy it over to the PS3. You can copy music from iTunes by selecting tracks and pressing CTRL+C, I believe the same applies in windows media player

First copy the files from the DVD to the computer. Insert DVd, and drag files to desktop. then run the files through the Archos media converter. A typical DVD is about 700MB, so you won't be able to fit many on there.

To register an Archos product, go to the Archos web site at http://www.archos.com
Under the "SUPPORT & ACCOUNT" tab at the top of the page, select "Register a product."

Howdy, a bit of a late answer, but go into music (or go into files, then choose the folder full of music you want to play)

Then when a song is playing, hold the M button for a while (can take anything up to 15 seconds) then you will see a menu come up. First option should be "Repeat M" (I assume M=mode) anyway, select that and scroll along with the + button until you get to "All Rand"

Select that and your away

Take the battery off, and to the left of the battery connetion tabs is a small gold button, push and hold for 10 seconds. It should start up after doing this.

When exploring the player in My Computer on the PC, before disconnecting always
go through the icon "safely remove hardware'' in the right corner on the computer's screen below.

For transfers Window Media Player 11 can be used.

just attached the usb cable to mp3 player and put in2 computer to charge for couple of hrs

Is the battery dead when you connected it? When you connect the MP3 player on the USB port, do you get any light signals etc? Try moving it into another USB port.
