Acer AL2416W 24 in. LCD Television - Answered Questions & Fixed issues
I have an Acer AL2416W
The most common failure in LCD monitors is capacitor burnout in the power supply. If that was the issue, and the service tech used the same brand of capacitor or a substitute with an inadequate ripple current rating, the problem would happen again. I have had excellent results using Panasonic FR-series capacitors as replacements, especially if there is space to go to one with the next higher voltage rating (usually also has a higher ripple current rating). The price is not too high if purchased from a general components supplier such as Mouser Electronics or Digi-Key Corporation.
A burned-out capacitor would have a domed top and may show signs of leakage through the safety vent cut into the top. Compare the bad caps marked in red with the good one on the right:

The problem is in the monitor, even if the display was not hooked to the computer you should see the acer logo. The monitor has a power supply inverter board issue often caused by bad capacitors that bulge at the top, an attempt can be made to repair or replace the board. If a professional gets involved cheaper to replace the monitor.
Left side of screen is darker than the rest of
Your screen maybe failing and there's no solution for that except to replace it.
Trying to fix that will only cost you more and you're better off buying a new one which is more practical. I've been working with CRT's, Flat screens, Monitors and LED's as well and this issue a common issue with all LCD's.
I nneed that part.
If you were to log on to the
manufacturer's web site, I think you will be pleasantly surprised as
usually one is able to download, by model number, Customer
Instruction Manuals, list
of Dealers,
for spare parts and service, Driver
downloads
and
Installation Instructions
as required.
I have searched ebay and there are non on there for sale at present but I have seen them sell for a few pounds.
I hope this helps.
Light comes on, no power to montior...
After posting my problem in this thread, I sent my Acer back in its original packaging with a copy of my receipt to Acer Technical Service. It still had a year left on its warranty (out of the original three years), and so I figured they would repair it. Much to my delight, they actually did. It took almost 3 weeks, and there was no email notification during the repair period (even though I asked about the status of my monitor once), and just when I was giving up hope, a big box arrived on my front doorstep. The note inside said:
"Enclosed you will find your unit which was sent to us for service. It has been thoroughly tested and repaired.
Repair Comments: Performed repair on customer unit.

So it looks like the problem was an inverter board, which they replaced. I plugged the monitor up to my laptop again and it's been working fine all day. It was a bit hard to get in touch with Acer about the problem at first, and during the repair, but in the end they followed through and repaired the product free of charge.
Screan comes on for 1 second then goes black.
This Acer 2416w has problems with weak capacitors on the inverter board causing shorting of the driver FETs. Replacing caps and shorted FETs may solve the malfunction.
Monitor Mike
Turn on and acer flashes on screen then goes
I found C34, C35, C36 and C38 (all 100uF 35V) caps with their bottoms blown out due to over voltage. I suspect Q4 and Q6 to be the culprits. They are both short circuit. F2 found open circuit.
All of the above are found on the backlight inverter PCB.
My problem is sourcing Q4 and Q6. No data available on these devices.
Any help would be appreciated.....

Mounting an Acer AL2416 to the wall
Hello Poet,
I recently purchased two of the Acer AL2416W to mount onto a monitor stand. I ran into the same problem, it looks as though you have to remove the entire rear of the Monitor to take the factory leg off. I believe I was trying to make it too complex, just gently pry the rear cover off of the hinge this will expose 4 screws remove these and you are all set.
