Please turn camera off and then on again. it

Had the same issue with my DMC-FZ50 for a couple weeks, and tried turning it onn and off countless times. I could hear something happening inside the lens on start-up and surmised the internal shutter was trying to open but wasn't able to. I guessed that the turn off/turn on idea was to resend the command impulse to open the shutter. So.... I t urned it on while repeatedly hitting the side of the lens firmly with the palm of my hand and.....it worked!!!!

SCREEN AND VIEW FINDER BLANK

Is the battery dead? Try taking it out and charging it, then put it back into the camera.

Also, you can try using another battery of the same type.

When I fit the radio

I've looked through the PDF manual for this camera and found the flash system pretty well full auto with the built in flash here is the manual link I used it's the fifth one from the top.

http://www.google.ca/#hl=en&biw=1303&bih=818&q=panasonic+lumix+dmc-fz50k+PDF+Manual&aq=f&aqi=&aql=&oq=&fp=a5556ef3492e88b9

You will need to do some extensive reading on the used of an external flash and you are right don't put other then what is recommended into the hot shoe for an external flash due to trigger voltage.

That said you need to select the external flash switch from built in to external. Next thing is once you switch from built in to external for use with a wireless transmitter everything becomes or will become manual. You will loose the ability to TTL because there is no communication between the trigger unit and the camera everything will be manual.

It sounds as if you are attempting to fire studio strobe lights.

In this case using wireless transmitter you will need to manual set your camera ISO, Shutter Speed and Aperture by doing light meter readings from your lights and setting your camera to those readings.

Or use dedicated external flash units. Even if you use a dedicated flash unit to trip the studio strobes the strobes will not synchronize with the camera flash.

Okay as a "rule of thumb" my studio lighting is set up to give me 1/60th shutter speed, F8 or F11 aperture at ISO 100.

You can't ask non designated flash unit to give you designated flash performance TTL because there is not communications between the flash units and the camera.

You need to read the manual on this camera and the external flash use

Lumix DMC-FZ50 will not power up. Tried 3

If this camera is like my FZ20, there is a socket to provide power to the camera from a mains adapter. The input socket is under the cover where the USB lead goes, and the manual shows a lead attached between this and a battery charger. My battery charger does not have this lead or DC output, though. The one that does is an optional extra, part DMW-CAC1. The manual recommends using the adapter to power the camera when it is connected to a computer, to make sure that a flat battery doesn't cause the memory to become corrupted.

My suggestion is that you attempt to power the camera through this DC power input, either with the approved adapter (maybe one of the chargers you are using has the output?) or with a generic one. I have successfully used a generic 9 volt adapter on my camera (positive center connector).

If it will power up with an adapter, I expect there is an issue with the connections in the battery housing. Otherwise, it might be a more fundamental fault.

You don't need the software. Just get a card reader and download to a folder you create on your desktop.

Have you tried another card in there?  Sometimes the cards go for no apparent reason at all.  And, of course, sometimes for an actual reason...the most common being pulling the card out of a card-reader while data is transferring.

Anyway, the card is the first thing to check/replace - if only because anything else it could be gets expensive.

Good luck!

Memory card error

The camera might just want you to format the card in the camera. This will erase it so download any pictures to your computer first using a card reader if necessary. Also, check the position of the slide switch on the side of the card.
