Desktop show but they is no taskbar and icons

try that:
http://www.killdisk.com/
The goal is deleting/erasing, "killing" your hard disk.
once "dead " put your installation windows cd and reinstall windows.
This process is an advanced cleaning for your hard drive.
If it doesn't work, change your hard drive because it will be probably, really dead,.
cheers

Wifi switch not hooked up - stuck in off, how can I override swit

Did you check to see if the wifi was properly plugged in?
Usually this happens after they replace the motherboards or anything else that makes them unplug things.
I would check to make sure it's plugged in and check the wifi card if it don't plug in and make sure it's compatible.
Happy Holiday

Used Recovery Disk and I have an application error

It seems like your hard drive has some bad sectors.

You need to run some disk manager software to check/fix tour disk.

The best choice would be to download the "ultimate cd" from here

Boot from the cd, go to "hard disk tools" and select a disk manager (better to select the one from the same manufacturer of the disk).

Run a scan, and fix the drive (if it is possible). Then rerun your system restore cd again.

If the hard drive can't be fixed, you'll have to replace it before running the system retore.

Good luck!

Oversensitive touchpad

Worst case, you could overlay the touchpad with the self-adhesive laminate used to protect photos. I would try it first without removing the backing to see if you can stand the loss of accuracy which will almost surely be a consequence of using it.
You might also check Toshiba's support section to see if there is a later driver with better control.

Write error : HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GMA-4082N

Can you provide a little more detail regarding your probem?
But anyway, Have you try using it? if the rom will read any disc, then probably your writer is malfunctioning.
Do you have any software like nero burning tools, this might help you adress your problem.
You can download some of them in the internet just surf it.
Examine also the type of disc you are using, the speed, if it is recordable or rewritable that maybe one of the errors when you burn in different format. or Test also if the disc itself is deffective.
