open back panel and look for error code to test all y sub boards remove the main power connection to the y main and turn the tv on if it powers on one of those boards are bad.. remove both sub boards. and plug in the y main. if it powers on then that board is good either, put your multimeter on 2k omh and test the upper ysub boards black connector, the top 2 pins with negative to the 5th pin positive. you should read 500-1k ohm if its way under 100 there is a short.the bottom ysub board place the multimeters black probe on the bottom 2 pins of the black power conection and the red on the 4th pin.. results are the same.low resistance means theres a short in the board.

It sounds as if you have some bad caps on your Power Supply board. If you remove the access panel on the rear of the tv, you will see a couple of circuit boards. The power supply board part# usually starts with the prefix of PSB- ##########. If you look at the capacitors on this board you'll probably notice 4 of 'em showing bulging tops and/or leakage. get the part #'s off the board, go to badcaps.org
and order a replacement.Good Luck!!

There is a high possibility that the components over a period of heating and cooling, tend to bring on a problem of dry soldering. So my advice is to check the set for some loose joints that has shut the main board specially on the SOUND SECTION..

The best way to check for loose connections is to tap lightly when the set is powered on , If there is change while tapping then it seems that there are DRY solder joints. Remove main plug, the covers - with caution of high voltage, check for dry joints, use a good soldering iron to solder all suspected points.

Sometimes the fault occurs when the set warms up, if so you can simulate the heat using a hair dryer on the suspected areas, try with the power supply, distribution, Processor controller, driver controllers on the A/V related sections. Also the use a FREEZE-IT spray can simulate the components to cool and show up the fault.

Based on the above method you must be able to locate the area of fault and solder the sections. Sometimes large IC's- ones with more pins- tend to have drying in some pins and so cause faults related to the IC's protocol. Have a rough idea of looking into the areas to reduce the time of probing.

Check for tips to look into the SMPS unit:

I hook up my cables

Video1 is likely composite video, and left/right audio.
Videos 2 and 3 are likely YPbPr so your composite signal comes out monochrome!

No picture but has sound

Hello,

Problem is in either power supply or the Y-Sustain board.

The Y-Sustain is a relatively large board out of which go connections to the side of the display; it's therefore closer to either the left or the right side of the display, has at least one rather large heat sink on it and fat power cables connecting it to the main power supply.

Often there are fuses on that board - one or more. Check those.

if they are blown you can try to replace them, but expect them to blow again - usually the whole board needs to be replaced.

I hope this will help in solving the problem.....

How to hook up a laptop to tv

Hello smfj37 and welcome to FixYa. In order for you to connect your PC to your television you will need a PCI Connection Cable which can be purchased online or at places such as Radio Shack. After you obtain the cable you must first connect the cable to your PCI input on the back of your laptop then connect the other end to your television. Now your television remote should have a video input button that changes the signal to accept a PC connection which will display your laptop monitors image onto your television screen. I wish you the best of luck and if you have any further question please use the comment box below. Thank you for using FixYa.

The tv is not coming

Check the inputs on your TV, are they correctly inserted? Is there a device connected to them? Try to change the input on your tv.
If this problem persists, it is your power supply failing, and your tv needs maintenance.
