I am not an expert but I would guess the tv is broken. The set might need retuning to receive programmes from an aerial but that would necessitate using the remote to select the main menu. If the menu cannot be selected it is a big clue... When a signal is injected through an HDMI port or similar the tv should respond automatically. If it doesn't respond I believe that is another clue the tv is broken. You could make sure by downloading an instruction manual just to be certain you are doing everything right.

Those blinks [flashes] are fault indication (Error Codes). From the number of blinks occur at one time switch ON, you can get an idea about the faulty circuit section inside it. Power on the unit in the dark room then shine with the flashlight directly in the screen, you will barely see the images. This is because your backlight is not functioning. The following reason is the caused.
1. Power supply - missing B+(supply voltage) coming from this board feeding the inverter board. This is caused by faulty transistor, dried/leaky electrolytic capacitor, open fusible resistor.
2. Inverter board - even the B+ is good from the power supply, if the fuse, driver transistor, driver transformer is faulty no output to the backlight resulting to black picture.
3. Busted backlight - even inverter board is good but if this is busted resulting to black picture also.
Diagnosing the fault is technical and if you don't have necessary tools and test instrument and can't fix it yourself, I would advice you to look for an experienced technician to isolate the problem.

Main power supply regulator section fault. Either it will be a separate board, or the part of main board. Check and replace damaged component/s at its main power regulator [SMPS] section circuit. Even though you can make it right, it will cost around an amount equal to the cost of a new board; including the cost of (spare parts + service charge) More to say, most of the spare parts to it will be difficult to get from open electronic spare part market. This is true to most of the flat panel TV power supply boards; irrespective of its brand and screen size.

You need to replace the mother board/main board. Make sure you have a really good surge protector for ALL your electronic devices.

The part name of this is 'infrared sensor'. There are so many types to this, and you should check it out to buy.

A common problem with that type of television is bad capacitors. Carefully remove the back of the set with the tv laying face down and with power OFF. Then look for the board that the AC power cable plugs into that it the power supply. There are many capacitors on that board and people usually say they look like batteries standing up. They usually are black. They all should have flat tops, if you see some that are bulging or puffed up then they are bad. You can change these yourself with a soldering iron or take to a shop and have someone do this for you.

If it comes on 'by itself' that's another issue (one which I'm currently working on), but if you're turning on the set and it shuts down, then first is the most common problem, capacitors on Power side. If willing and have the meters to check (capacitor w/ESR meter), then there's opportunity to repair. Start with the largest uf (typically the one) and work down from there. If good, I go towards the Thermistor next. If you're not the slightest knowledge about what kind of power is in those circuit boards. Do not attempt any repairs. If you're lucky enough not to hurt yourself, you'll burn out more 'good' components in there.

You have to press AND HOLD the power button for several seconds to turn this type of TV on.
