Kodak EASYSHARE 5300 All-In-One InkJet Printer - Answered Questions & Fixed issues
What is the photo tray?
It is the holder for 6x4 photo paper. You will find it built into the top cover of the main A4 paper tray, on the right hand side. Mine has a transparent plastic cover. To load it, lift the cover and insert photo paper.
It is engaged by lifting the cover and sliding the tray into the printer. It is automatically recognised.
Printhead not working
I hear this is a common fault with these printers. Kodak are aware of the problem. If you follow the trouble shooting section on the kodak home page you will be given a reference number and be asked to phone their tech support. Tech support will take the ref number and your address and send you a new print head. They do this free of charge. They don't even ask when or where printer was bought. The only info they ask for is the servive number, which you will find when you open the top of the machine.
INK DISTRIBUTION
Printer software will have a menu for cleaning the heads when they get dirty or clogged. Try that. You can also , if possible, remove the print head and soak it for a few hours in cleaning solution.

Black printing double ink
This is often a problem when using non-Kodak inks as the cheap after-market cartridges use dye instead of pigment inks. Replace the after-market cartridge with the proper Kodak pigment ink cartridge and the problem should go away. If you are using a Kodak cartridge, you may need to run your printer through the cleaning cycle a couple of times. Also, run the printer through the calibration cycle once.
Clean printhead
If you have used the cleaning cycle and did not have success, you will most likely have to replace the print heads.
If you do not print weekly with a Kodak printer, the ink can dry inside the heads and they stop printing or start missing lines that cannot be fixed by using the kodak cleaning cycle. . I have had this happen to two of my Kodaks. To prevent this, if you are not using them regularly, print a test sheet weekly and you should have no problem. At this point, your best bet is to order new heads for your printers and then maintain them with weekly test prints.
