humming noise on HP Pavilion dv9000

I just purchased this labtop last week. It is great except for the humming that is coming from the keyboard area. Any suggestions? Should I return and get a new one? I don't think I can live with the buzzing/humming for long. Thanks

I have a dv6000 and its makes a insect tlike noise. i returned it and got another one but that one also made the same noise. so i contacted hp and they told me that the sound is coming from the USB ports, i thought wierd but here is the solution to your problem. go to computer managment (start>right click my computer> manage), click on device manager, select the universal serial bus contollers ( there should be a few roots files that open up), right click a usb root hub and select properties, click the power managment tab, and uncheck "allow the computer to turn off this device to save power". do this for every USB root hub that you have, and the problem should go away. FYI these instructions are for windows XP.

I had the exact same problem so I called HP support. The instructions were- remove power cord from lap top if power cord is connected, then remove battery, connect power cord to lap top then turn on lap top by holding power button down for 30 seconds. It booted up, no problem. The proceedure is to remove static electricity.

dv9000 overheating.

hello my name Tony. I was reading about a problem on the dv9000 that overheated. I have a dv9000that went dead 3 weeks before the one year warranty ended. Got it fixed and back online within 2 weeks. Four months later the "same exact problem happened". Obviously some support rep out of canada is telling me that I had 90 days to report that problem again. I come from a strong hardware IT background, and I can tell you that this machine overheated like a mother. I personaly thing the GPU died. Of course tech support won't replace the part with a new one, instead we get a rebuilt board with less than half the life expectancy. In any case I would like some advise if you would on how to handle this situation. I also read that you mentioned that hp had extended the warranties on this unit because of this problem. Can you elaborate on that, is there proof of that somewhere? I sincerely thank you for any insight you may offer me. By the way, my email address is [email protected]

Thank you
Tony

Like jlmalone said, it is definately ventilation problem... which translates to some design issues with the laptop (Left side of the laptop is fried where as the right side is cool at normal temp). The heat transfusion is not the perfect desgin.

These instructions will show you exactly how to find the built-in webcam and enable it when using the Windows Vista operating system.

There's a few different challenges with the laptop webcam so if enabling the camera wasn't your problem, try this page which has more information on setting up the laptop webcam.

First, check if the Wireless Adapter is being listed in the Device Manager or not.
Follow the steps listed below to check it :
Click the Start Menu and in the Search pane, type Device Manager and click on the optio that is displayed among the results.
This will open the Device Manager in a new window.
In this, click on the + mark next to Network Adapters and check if there is any entry related to the Wireless Card is displayed.
If any, try uninstalling and reinstalling it.
Hoewever, if there is no Wireless Card entry listed under Network Adapters, check if there are any Unknown devices listed.
If nothing are present, the issue can be either with the Wireless card or with the Slot on the Motherboard in which the Wireless Card is inserted into.
The Notebook need to be repaired.
Additionally, I would like to inform you that HP had identified some hardware issues with few Notebooks installed with AMD Processors and is providing free repairs for notebooks purchased and currently available in US and Canada.

i messed with this for days, trying to install older versions of nvidia and installing drivers but nothing seemed to work. so i finally read the manuel to my hp dv9500. they address this in like the third page. it says in order to have sound through hdmi u must change your speadek settings to digital.
go into control panal, click on hardware and sound, select sound, and under the playback tab select the digital output and set it as default. you wont get any sound out of the computer speakers but presto!!!! it plays sound out of my tv with the hdmi cable its great!!!!

Laptop turns off intantly, when I unplug the charging cord

For those of you having the problem of a HP laptop shutting off when you unplug the charger and your battery is fully charged, I can help you. There is nothing wrong with the laptop, battery, or computer, it is a power management setting. If you go to display properties, select the screen saver tab, then click the "power" button, in the power schemes field is a drop down window, click on it and select "Rixane Power Scheme", it is a power switching utility that quickly switches between AC and Battery when the power cable/charger is plugged in or unplugged while the laptop is on. If you have it set to "always on" it will shut off when you pull the power cord, even if the battery is charged. This will also happen on many non-HP laptops, if you don't have a HP laptop or there is not a "Rixane" option available, select the "Portable/Laptop" power scheme. Hope this helps!

HP dv9000 won't play Blu ray DVDs

I set up my new HPdv9000 to show blu ray discs on my hdtv and now it will not show them on the laptop Help! How do I reset this thing to show them on the laptop?

The problem is QuickPlay. Some discs work, but those that didn't, played just fine on my PS3. I had to buy Cyberlink PowerDVD 9 Ultra (10 Ultra also plays Blu Ray), and now, they all play on my HP dv4 laptop. Updates won't matter. Don't use QuickPlay, it's very "fical". Hope this saves you time & frustration. It's not you, it's not your Blu Ray drive, or drivers, it's simply the software/program (QuickPlay) that is the problem.
