When I turn set on, a loud pop happens, picture does not come on, but sound will

I would not keep trying to turn on if a loud noise is heard---some general info:I see so many here with no sound/nopicture issues:ISSUES: 1. IF sound main fuse/s are good.2. If no power or standby check main fuse, standby power supply and any signsof damage you can see---burnt parts etc.3. almost all these sets the troubleshooting involves checking voltages on the main power board to narrow down theproblem.4. Be safe and if you do not know what you are doing don't open the set.Answers to issues:1. RE:fuses---if a blown fuse is found get a good replacement(not the genericones like Radio Shack). Many fuses are special even aside from amperage--Don'tput a higher rated amperage fuse in the set for any reason.2. RE: power supply in set: if total dead aside from main fuse the set uses astandby power supply that runs 7/24 and a main supply (some are combined andsome not. Here aside from checking fuses you want to examine all the filter caps on thepower/standby to see if any are puffed up or buldged up in some fashion--Iattach a photo of a good one---top should be silver metal and PERFECTLY flatand have no brown material coming out on top or bottom. What happens in the standby area is they use caps with too low a voltage rating(saves money) which causes them to fail in a year or two---the standby runs7/24 and the heat dries out the caps and they fail.3. Trouble shooting consists of the above and then at some point you have to buyand try a board to see if it fixes it or not.4. Safety first--no TV set is worth getting injured or even killed over.If set is opened at least look for puffed up and bad caps like in thisphoto.4_23_2012_4_37_11_pm.jpg

My LG 42pc1DV has sound normal but picture just died and is blacl, before this happened I had a lot of green pixels that only showed up across screen on dark pictures, 4 year old and just out of warre

Either your Y sustain board went out or your upper and lower Y buffer boards went out. Worst case scenario is your panel went out. But you won't know without replacing the other boards first.

Tv turns on sounds find no picture

This sounds like a very common issue. If set is hard to turn on (takes several tries)but will eventually turn on hereis what my guess would be.Every set has a standby power supplythat is running 7/24 if the set is plugged in and it supplies voltage to theremote circuit that turn on the main power supply for the tv and hence turn theset on.This is an area where companies cut corners by using lower rated voltage caps.By this I mean Standby usually provides under 10 volts to trigger the seton----what they do is use filter caps rated at say 10 volts max in a circuitwith 9 volts (example)=with the standby on all the time the filter caps(electrolytic caps) dry out and fail. The problem usually begins where you have to turn set on or or two times andgradually gets worse--takes longer and more tries to get it to come up.Once on it will stay on until turned off for a period of time. The caps will begin to work better (regain some of thecapacitance) as they get hot--hence one it is on it will seem ok.The beauty of this problem is most of themhappen when set is a year or two old (no warranty) and all you have to do islook at the top to locate bad ones. They are generally black or blue and round and vary in --they have twoconnections each--a + for positive and a - for negative--not unlike a batterywhich in a way they are. The + and - are marked on top and bottom of most boards. They are easy to replace and not expensive parts. The tops are silverand metal looking with creases on top and if bad they will be puffed up ontop---tops must be perfectly flat with no brown material leaking top or bottom. If this is your problem once you id them (make a drawing) you can begin. Here is the critical part---on each cap is also marked the value like 220uf 10vdc---220 micro farad at 10 volts maximum. If you find for example 6 puffed up and all are 10 vdc replace them with thesame value capacitance (like the 220 uf) but go up to at least in this case(from 10 volts) to a 16 or higher rated voltage cap.The only issue is when you go up in voltage rated value the cap is larger sosometimes there is an issue of physical space for the replacement on the boardto fit them in.The reason they cheapen these sets in this way is if 10 caps and you make25,000 sets there is a considerable savings in parts cost. They do not care as long as it lasts past the usual one year parts warranty.I have taken the time to be long winded because this really sounds like it maybe the problem you have.See attached photo of a typical cap and if you have questions or need advicelet me know.4_2_2012_3_41_56_pm.jpg

Discharge a capacitor

Use a jumper wire with alligator clips on both ends. This may be dangerous if the voltage is very high and the capacitance is large say 1Mfd and a large spark is anticipated. If a circuit board I anticipate voltages less than 12 volts and you can hook one end of the alligator clip one side of the capacitor and the second alligator clip to the remaining terminal of the capacitor. Expect a spark to discharge when you short the capacitor.

Lg Plasma PC1DA no Picture??????

The provided description is typical for failure of a YSUS board, which is in turn quite typical for LG 42PC1DA and a bunch of other makes and models which all share the same internals. To find out whether it's the YSUS or the ZSUS board that has gone bad look at the following article:http://blog.coppelltvrepair.com/2011/02/hp-pl4260n-suddenly-lost-picture-how-to.htmlThis is for a different make and model, but has the same core modules that 42PC1DA has. This article also addresses the case when the TV refuses to come on, which is usually caused by a shorted IPM module on a YSUS board which, however, did not lead to burning the fuse as it normally does. The failure is actually the same, only the symptom is different. If the failed board is the YSUS (which is the case most of the times, but not always) then you may want to checkhttp://blog.coppelltvrepair.com/2011/03/how-to-uninstall-6871qyh053b-and.htmlFinally, you may consider the following:http://blog.coppelltvrepair.com/2011/05/should-i-replace-repair-one-or-both.htmlShould you need to have one or both boards serviced you can use the following:http://www.ebay.com/itm/Sustain-6871QYH053B-LG-42PC1DA-REPAIR-EXCHANGE-/110535815308Good luck!

Red dots on dark back ground screen

for this symptom (over diffusion) the voltage for Vsetup has to be decreased, or for opposite (under diffusion) has to be increased. These would be on your sustain board Y. Make very SMALL adjustment, as this can be very touchy potentiometer. There is a sticker on back of panel that will have all the voltages for Vs, Va, Ve, Vscan; these are very important, have to be spot on.

42" plasma worked fine this

Hi
A common problem for these is bad capacitors in the power supply, Remove the back from your Tv and look at the power supply on the left hand side.

You will see roughly around 9 x capacitors that are bulged / domed shaped on top usually these are valued at 3300uf 10V any that have bulged or leaked a brown like substance should be changed.
This will cure the problem as they overheat being sat next to a heatsink that gets very hot!
Try and change them for the same 3300uf but a higher voltage.
Hope this helps
