"All lights blinking and printer not responding" is
indicative of serious ink cartridge issue. Usually when this happens the
printer fails to goes through the motions of the printing process, kind of
stands still with indicator lights just blinking away. This could be as a
result of either of these scenarios.
The Solution is to try an older/another cartridge (doesn't matter if ink
is finished. You must replace cartridge one at a time). If lights stop blinking
it confirms that your cartridge has become incompatible or developed
incompatibility. Also if your printer is the type that can work with only one
cartridge, remove one after the other (closing back the lid/cover) to determine
which in the set (black or color) has become incompatible. At the instance the
incompatible one is removed and you close the lid, the blinking will stop (for
printers that can print with one ink cartridge only). Just replace the
incompatible one and start printing again. In most cases the issue is always
with one cartridge. But if both are affected, you have to replace both. Because
of this type of problem, always keep used cartridges somewhere safe; they come
in handy for this type of troubleshooting.
The electronic panel on the cartridge that makes contact with the
cartridge carrier inside the printer is dirty and needs cleaning. This electronic panel is front part of the
cartridge with copper "dots".
The Solution is to try to clean this panel with a piece of folded tissue paper soaked in a bit of methylated spirit. Also try to clean the area in the cartridge carrier/holder that makes contact with the cartridge's electronic panel (Usually this is more difficult). If you cannot reach it with your fingers, use a stick or something with tissue wrapped around it. Allow to dry well and return the cartridges, close the cover. The blinking should stop if the electronic panel is the issue. Once the blinking stops the printer will print.
Go to www.hp.com, look to the top right-most side of screen and choose [Support and Drivers]. Click [Download drivers and software], type in your model number including any letters which may come before or after the model (not the manufacturers name i.e.. HP leave that out, just the model) then click of the [>>] 'go' button to the right of the box where you placed your model number.
Make sure the picture, at the top of the page that opens next, is your printer and the model number matches correctly (if not, you get the opportunity to place the correct model in, once again) ** REMEMBER: Do not type HP just the model number and any letters before or after, but are included in the model number.
The language is already preset for 'English', you may choose the language of your choice. Next, choose your Operating System and BE SURE to know whether your computer Operating System is 32 or 64 (see note at bottom of page to determine whether you a 32 or 64 bit user)
After selecting your Operating System, scroll way down to the bottom of the page to find the downloads. Sometimes there will be an Instruction Download (this will be the user manual: how to care for, use, share, etc..) Beneath that you'll find driver download options (Be Careful) here you may find an abbreviated driver, which means just the bare driver, no bells no whistles, none of the software that was on the disk you installed. If you want or need that software... Carefully look for and download the FULL version. Last Caution.. You may see a full version which is to purchase the Installation CD/DVD disk, which was already packaged with your printer... Don't Bother buying a disk, everything you need is on the web site and you can burn your own copy if you prefer to have a disk.
Click your Selection and follow instructions. You will be asked whether you prefer USB or Wireless installation; no matter what your choice - I, highly, recommend disconnecting any USB cord which may be plugged into the printer/computer,prior to downloading, and do not plug it in until the program says: Plug in your USB cable now. If you prefer wireless (If its a wireless printer), You should first set it up with the wire that will make going wireless much much easier.
How to Tell if it's a 32 or 64 Bit Operating System:
NOTE: Click [Start], RIGHT-Click [Computer], Click [Properties]. A widow will open with your Operating System Information: I am using Windows 7, Ultimate. You may be using windows 7 Home Premium or XP or Vista, etc. If, top section EDITION, your O/S name is not followed by a number, that means it IS a 32. If 64 bit is printed after your O/S name then you have a 64 bit. Some manufacturers put it mid page under System Type: there you may see 64 or 32 or nothing at all. Remember if it does not say 64, anywhere in that properties box, even if it does not say 32 bit; if it does not say 64 bit... It Is a 32bit... 64 bit systems, while supposedly, faster than 32 bit systems have fewer drivers available than 32 bit users. .
