Help! I was just watching television and it shut off suddenly. The on/off light just blinks red but the tv won't turn back on. I've had it for less than 6 months.
What do you think this might be?
I have the same problem. My Akai 27" flat screen shuts off inconsistantly. Sometimes it will stay on for hours and then we have to turn in on every 2 minutes. It seems to be getting worse. Is there anyone who has found a way to fix this?

My Akai LCT2715 27" LCD had some sort of power supply problem, which caused the picture to gradually darken over the course of some weeks. While it was doing that, I coped by adjusting the brightness, contrast, and other picture settings until it just got too bad. I had the power supply problem fixed, but now I can't restore the picture. Whites seem really washed out, mainly, but adjusting contrast and brightness numbers don't so much fix the problem.
Are there default / factory values for picture settings? Can someone who likes their picture tell me what their values are for:
Contrast
Brightness
Back Light
Saturation
Hue
Sharpness
Color Temperature
Thanks very much.

Do you a schematic diagram on this Power Supply? I have bulged (bad) EC9, EC10, EC18, EC19, and EC20 Caps. I also have shorted Zener Diodes Z3, Z4 and Z5. I believe Z3 in a 27v zener, but do not know the values of Z4 or Z5. There also may be another shorted diode below HS1. Any component values or help will be appreciated.
If I give you the values of Z3, Z4 and Z5, would you return the favor by telling me what are the values for R104, R106, R107 and C17?
I have posted this request 5 times for 2 months and no body gave me an answer. Would you be willing to work with me? E-mail me [email protected] and use MLT168A-fixya as subject
Thanks

The LCT2715 is over 2 years old. It hasn't been used that much until recently. Last night, the TV's picture went blank and was making an awful sound. Unplugged to make it stop. Plugged in the power cord again, nothing. Only a blinking red light. You can used the power switch to turn the blinking light off and then back on again. This light used to be either solid red when off or green when on. So what does this blinking red light mean. Is the power supply bad?
It appears in all cases that the power supply needs to be service. The blinking light might indicate that there are shorted parts or the voltage is low or a combination of both.
The solution at this point would be to get the power supply repair since new boards are not longer being manufactured. In about 95% of the time if the LCD doesn't power up or turns OFF by itself or need to be unplug for some time to make work again; those are the symptoms of a dying or defective power supply.
I service these power supplies, for more info write to [email protected]

The screen is blue/black but lights up slightly cos the back lights are working as you change channels the screen slowly goes darker each second just like a pulse no pixel movement whatsoever, any ideas, many thanks if you have.
it's the back light inverter.
they are common to fail. you will have to change that board.

thanx.
Capacitors come in all shapes and sizes from microscopic to as large as a small bottle. It depends on its use. It must be replaced with an exact match. Some common ones look like batteries with leads on each end or both on one end. They can hold a charge for weeks or longer. I removed one from a defective camera flash just for fun and was given a sharp jolt for my trouble. If you suspect a bad one have the device repaired by a professional. Good Luck

Red light blinking and no response akai LCT2715
The led is blinking due to fault in power supply board.
On the power supply board there are some capacitors and ICs .if any of those gets short or faulty the power supply board will create problems and the red light will start blinking.
The components on the board needs to be checked with the help of multimeter and continuity tester. And the faulty components needs to be replaced with the help of soldering iron.
the procedure to check the power supply board is as follows:----
1) You are going to need a Phillips ( X ) Screwdriver for this procedure. The first thing you will want to do is find a suitable location to disassemble the TV. Try to find somewhere with plenty of space to work and preferably somewhere you will not have any hazards such as static (like carpet)
Lay the TV Flat on its face (picture side down) and remove the 4 screws from the back of the TV holding the base on.
Next you will want to process to remove the screws around the back cover. There are 12 screws you will need to remove (refer to picture for locations).
Carefully remove the back panel of the TV. It may snag on the coaxial connector so be careful.
2) Once you have the back off of the TV you can see the Main board and power supply covers. You will now need to remove the left (right side from the back) speaker cover to allow access to two of the screws holding the Power Supply Cover in place. This is easy and pretty straight forward and has 8 screws around the perimeter.
Once you have the speaker cover off you should be able to access the screws on the side and you will also want to remove the other screws from around the sides of the cover. Some TV's I have worked on only had 6 where others had 7 or 8. Just make sure to remove all of the screws before trying to remove the cover.
Once you have the cover removed you will see the Power supply. Remove the wiring harnesses from the power supply board. You will have 4 cables at the top of the power supply and one main power input at the bottom. The main power input may have some glue securing it in place. Simply cut this with a knife or pull it loose.
Once you have the cables off of the power supply you can remove it from the TV via the screws on the 4 corners. Be careful not to damage anything as you remove these screws. You now have the Power Supply removed from the TV.
you can now get the power supply repaired from any local tv repair technician.or get new replacement power supply from the service center.or from online stores like :
www.partstore.com
or from
www.shopjimmy.com
Thanks. you can rate this solution and show your appreciation.

the power light is constantly blinking in yellow. before this happened the yellow light was on without blinking I turned it off, once I turned it back on the light turned green but the screen wasn't showing me anything. I held down the power button for a couple of seconds and it turned on. Few minutes later it went off again and the power light kept blinking in yellow.
try unplugging your t.v for 10-20 seconds. plug it back in. if your power light continues to flash your t.v is the issue. you should be able to google your issue or check your owners manual about the problem. unplugging the t.v is the last ditch effort. Good Luck!
