the battery bad none last this long ever. so replace the battery, there are like 1 million post like this hear,and at toshiba forum. and all are the same thing, 99.9% bad battery. some fail in 1 year abused. facts.

the popping sound your hearing is actually the sound of overheated circuits with miniature sparks. And seeings as its your screen thats affected (by screen i mean display image) it leands me to believe that the video card is overheating. now the fix for this involves replacing the main board, however lets open it up first and see if we can fint anything that has gone loos (cables screws etc) in the even we dont well we have to get a new board.

- possible problem with the AC power supply
- try using a different AC adapter. if issue persist try flashing the BIOS. if issue still persist then have the motherboard checked out.

Try this first!. Removed the battery and plug the power, press the power button. If nothing happens, unplug the power supply and press the power button for about 30 seconds (assuming that you have removed all power source, battery and power supply).
If none of this worked, try another battery. Most of the time some brands required presence of battery in order to operate. If not, may sure that your power supply is providing you with adequate power (grab a multimeter and test it, if you know how to)

Click on downloads tab and choose windows xp as the operating system. it will show a list that is available for download. in your case, this is the name of the driver you would like to put on your computer, Intel Wireless LAN Driver V11.1.1.16 for Windows XP(v11.1.1.16; 07-31-2007; 6.62M). I had problems with Toshiba's website giving me wrong drivers. Try looking up, on device manager, the manufacturers name for the sound card and go to their website for answers.

the only thing this could be is the backlight inverter has failed. you would be better getting a cost on the part and repair before you go ahead.

Assuming that you have set up the connection from that computer the next thing you want to do is check your anti-virus settings to make sure that your firewall is not blocking the connection. If you use the Windows firewall check the same thing. It seems that this is a computer issue and not a network problem because you indicated that your HP is able to connect wirelessly with no problems.

I had the same problem with my toshiba a215 it ended up being the connector on the circut board need to be replaced when I did that no problem since good luck

check your inverter and LCD connector.

Check your power settings. You might have it set to shut off after a certain time of non-use.

Insert OS cd in drive and start reinstalling by selecting repair mode now once all files are loaded system will reboot when you see the Installing Devices progress bar, press SHIFT + F10
this will give you access to your account also you can reset all passwords
Now restart lappy and let the system boot normally without OS cd in drive
now you will come to old screen and previously configured desktop with all intact aplication and icons on desktop and it will no more ask you for password till you set a new one
