LG 50PC3D 50 in. Plasma Television - Page 8 Questions & Answers
I am looking to buy
Hi,
LCD and Plasma are both older technologies that have been around for a few years now. LED is in fact a just a newer version of LCD - the panel on the TV is still an LCD panel but the backlighting is provided in a different way via light emitting diodes (LED) instead of the fluorescent based backlighting used by older LCD TVs.
Getting into the technical jargon I feel will not help you very much in making your choice. The choice you make is obviously going to be about image performance and value for money.
LCD and LED TVs become expensive once you move into the 54" and above bracket. It is widely accepted that at this screen size plasma is the best bang for your buck and the quality is in no way diminished.
LCD/LED is the favored screen in sizes of 37" or below and these are generally better in highly lit rooms because they produce brighter screens in these conditions. However, if your room is normally lit and at the screen size you desire, plasma will undoubtedly give you the best mixture of excellent image quality coupled with the widest viewing angle. Because plasma technology has been around for a while and the technology has moved on to overcome early problems the disadvantages are few.
Therefore, I can confidently recommend plasma as the best option at the 54"-55" screen size and in particular anything from Panasonic in their plasma range is very hard to beat at that screen size.
Hope this helps. Thanks for using FixYa.
My LG 50"Plasma TV -
The problem is with the power circuit board components . The capacitors have gone bad. A pop sound is created due to the burn out of the capacitors..Faulty capacitors can be identified either by using an continuity tester or by appearance that i will be bulged at the top...
Most probably the burned out part which created the pop sound must have created a burned appearance in that area. Just check it out...
If you are an novice in working with the circuit board please take it to a technician who will be able to desolder the components and solder it again..
Lg 50pc3dhas a sound but no picture
Failure in either of the following can cause no video output.
- Display Panel
- Y Drive Board
- Y SUS Board
- Z SUS board
- X Drive Boards
- Tape Carrier Package (TCP)
- Main Board
Try these if you have electronics background :
Note: Touch your fingers repeatedly to a ground connection point or unpainted metal in the product before proceeding.
- Unplug the unit.
- Remove the back cover by removing the screws holding it.
- Disconnect the LVDS cable from the power supply or
from the main board. LVDS cable runs from the right bottom of the power
supply to the upper left of the main board. Power supply is located at
the upper center of the unit and the main board is at the right bottom
of the unit.
- Plug the unit back and turn it on or the unit turns on automatically.
- Look for the Control Board. It is located right at the center of the unit below the power supply. It has a LED on it.
- On the Control Board at the right bottom of the MCM
chip, the big chip right at the center of the board, you can see two
test points. Short across the two test points.
- If there appears a picture of cycling colors and
patterns, the Y-SUS, Y-Drive, Z-SUS, Power Supply, X-Boards, TCPs and
Panel are all OK. The Main Board or the LVDS cable is defective.
- Check LVDS cable continuity.
- Replace Main Board if LVDS cable is good.
- If no picture of cycling colors appeared on step 6, some adjustment is off or some portion of the signal is missing.
- Check fuses or continuity of voltage supply lines going to the X Board/s, Y SUS and Y drive Boards and Z SUS Board.
- Replace blown fuses, connect broken lines, and resolder loose solders.
- If no apparent damage is found, ask for a qualified or
experienced technician's service. Massive and sophisticated tests and
voltage readings are required and proper tools are needed such as
oscilloscope to find which signal is missing. The parts to be tested
are prone to handling damage and requires proper handling and testing.
What are capacitors
Power packs, small '2 long cylinder, have lable like 10uf so on.Not worth replacing, not know the function of capacitors, replaced the whole board.

I would start by obviously checking all connections on the back of the tv. Sounds like maybe your Yellow RCA cable might have creeped out. Red and White RCAs are typically for sound and Yellow is for Video. Hope this helps
My lg 50pc3d turns on then off on off on off what
The problem is associated with the power supply or the main board since these two parts are responsible in communicating in order to turn the unit on sequentially.
To find which one is the culprit:
- Unplug the unit.
- Remove the back cover.
- Disconnect the cable that connects the power supply and the main board.
- Plug the unit to the AC outlet.
- If the power supply automatically turns on and stays on, you have a bad main board. Replace it.
- If the unit does not automatically turn on or turns on but shuts right off, you have a bad power supply. You need to replace it.
I have a 50" LG
Yes, probably a bad power supply. Plamas generally have had a lot of trouble with them and they are generally a cheap first part to replace yourself with the symptoms that you are having. You can get a new one directly through the manufacturer or where you bought it from. Let me know how replacing it goes.

Tv does not have power
most likely a bad power supply but you will need someone to check it who understands this type of circut it may be just the supply but it may also be another fualt that cuased this part to fail. so its a bit technical. you can also get a lg specific model tv service manual and check "no power" fualt area troubleshooting tips. hope this helps
