it most probably is DTV ready, try googeling some on the subject, but since its a LCD tv from 2006 its most likely to made with a digital tuner. Note : if you have cable or satelite ( dish networks, Direct Tv and so on ) you are allready watching digital TV and do not need a converter box.

same thing happened to a tv i let my parents use.. They said it quit working and were gonna throw it out.When i went over there, and turned it on. i found that some one hit the video button on the remote, and the screen went black and there was no sound.. IF YOU HAVE A SOLID BLACK LINE RUNNING VERTICALLY THEN YOU HAVE A FAULTY MATRIX INVERTER. IF CENTRAL THE MAIN VERTICAL INVERTER NEEDS CHANGED. LEFT = LEFT VERTICAL INVERTER RIGHT=RIGHT.........

ANOTHER WAY TO GET THIS FAULT IS WORN OR DAMAGED RIBBON/PLASTIC GOING FROM THE SCREEN MATRIX TO THE INVERTER

If it is blowing the main AC fuse then you have a shorted Diode in power supply,or a shorted bridge recifier IC. The shorted part will be nearest the fuse and large Power Capacitor. Check The Diodes in the primary circuit of the AC supply area.

Power supply board is dead.Replaced it with a purcharse of a refurbish power supply board at websites at Shopjimmy.com,Ebay.com for the replacement.

TV is no longer analog, it is digital, which means NO over the air broadcasting for your TV to receive. The ONLY way to receive a picture on this set is to have some sort of input being broadcast, via Direct TV, Cable, etc. You could always use it as a stand alone DVD monitor if you choose. This sounds like a safety feature built into the television. It may be trying to protect itself from an unsafe electrical source. The more expensive the equipment, the more sophisticated the power supply that converts the power from your outlet into your television. There could have been a lightning strike that has disabled the tv. Or it could be a faulty outlet.
Before called for a technician, I recommend plugging the television into a different outlet. use a good quality extension cord if necessary. You may find that your outlet is not polarized correctly.
