I have a 17" LCD Monitor - LCM-17V8. When I turn

Hi, it seems to be an issue with your monitor's backlight not working properly. Just to be sure, try using a different monitor on the same exit of your VGA, if that works, my supposition is confirmed. In case your monitor is still under warranty, just send it to Westinghouse support center, otherwise I'm afraid you will have to buy a new one. Hope it helped, Franz

This is a failure of the circuit that runs the fluorescent lamps that light up the screen or possibly a bad lamp, I have seen both types of failure occur. It is possible it can be repaired but if you take it to a shop the repair can cost a significant portion of just buying a new monitor. I repair some and toss some depending on the economics of each case individually. The lamps are too much trouble to bother with, and the power circuits can be both simple and complex depending on what part failed.

If you are going to DIY and already try the monitor with another PC, and have proper tools and know safety precaution then please read on: Most common failures in the LCD monitors are bad capacitors (bulging top/seal or leaking) in the power supply (they should be replaced in a set), blown fuses; poor solder joints, failed inverter circuits (blown fuse, shorted transistors, shorted/open transformers), bad lamps (poor solder connections or worn out lamps). You will need to open it up and inspect the inside, see example of failed WESTINGHOUSE monitors to get some ideas what to look for: http://s807.photobucket.com/albums/yy352/budm/ Post back what you see inside so we can guide you further and it will help out other people in the future also.

Hey

its a very common problem in all lcd monitors, the powersupply wears out, you can probably repair it yourself by replacing all the electrolyte capacitors on the power board, or just the ones that are bulky or not flat.

Often if you turn the monitor off and on off and on until the picture finaly stays on the screen the screen will work until turned off again.

this will get solved by replacing the capacitors, your going to need a soldering iron and know how to use one?

Is the board brand new or used? You will need to verify the voltage (12~18vdc) feeding the inverter circuits, there is also a surface mounted fuse.

I have a Westinghouse LCD screen model LCM19v5.

Thanks for the pictures, it makes it easy to determine that these two capacitors need to be replaced. Whenever the tops of the capacitors start to bulge or the the vents actually rip open, the capacitor is bad. A normal capacitor should have a flat top.

You need to replace the capacitor with the same capacitance and at least the same if not greater voltage. These capacitors have a polarity, so when you replace them, be sure that the lead white strip with the minus sign is inserted to the negative hole on the board.

Hope this helps!

It sounds like the T-CON board on the LCD panel may be damaged when the filter caps went bad. Do you see any bad caps in the logic board? Also check out he ribbon cable between the logic bd and the T-CON LCD panel are properly attached.
