I have been having problems with the black ink not printing on the printer mentioned in subject line. I have tried every avenue available from troubleshooting, to maintenance to even replacing the brand new cartridge just in case the other was a dry one even though brand new.
Please tell me what i need to do and know that I will be so grateful as this has been a four hour ordeal. In addition my HP 7200 series does not print for other reasons, it says usb not recognized or one excuse after the other. I have 30 GB of free space so dont think this is a problem.
Thanks a million for any assistance or direction you may be able to give.

You may need to install a new print head. it is very easy to do yourself (basically the same steps you used to install it when you bought the printer- you can also find step-by-step instructions with pictures on cannons support website http://www.usa.canon.com/opd/controller?act=OPDSupportDropDownAct) What has probably happened is that dried ink has accumulated on the print head and clogged it. the "clean print head" option on the printer is a maintenance function that should be performed regulary to prevent a clog; it is not effective at clearing an already clogged print head.

i lost my instruction on how to scan ,can you help?
Hello,
You should be able to find out what you need by going to the product's website:
http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=ModelInfoAct&tabact=SupportDetailTabAct&fcategoryid=238&modelid=13369#DownloadDetailAct
Click on the "Drivers & Downloads" tab able halfway down the page. Click on the "User's Guide" link to open the guide. Looks like scanning information begins on page 58.
Hope this helps! : )

I recently purchased 2 ink cartridges from ebay for my printer, they are refills, and obviously they have refilled old ink cartridges for the MP460 (Black-PG50/PG40 and Colour-CL51/CL41)
I thought this would be a good idea as it is recycling.
I have added my 2 new cartridges to my printer and installed them both properly, however my printer comes up with the error message-
"U051-The following ink cartridge cannot be recognized" and it has a picture of the 2 cartridges side by side with labels B&C.
I was warned before finalising my purchase that this may happen but was advised to "overide it".
I've been able to "override" refilled inks that are not recognisd by a printer on many occasions before on all types of printers, but cannot seem to do it on my MP460.
Is there a solution to this error message or have i wasted my money on something that i thought was good for the enviroment?
Any answers/solutions would be very gratefully recieved and appreciated.
Thank you very much
Jade King
Check the Label on the cartridge if it covers a certain area then you will get an error message. Compare it with a good cartridge the label should nearly touch the lugs at top end. Only applies to refilled Carts.

paper jam error but no paper in it.
This can be fixed at home. It's a design flaw that locates a little paddle right on the edge of an infared light beam when the paddle is resting where it should be when no paper is in the printer. If they had extended this black plastic paddle ever so slightly toward the front of the printer, it would surely interrupt the beam as it is supposed to do. Raise the platten section as if you were going to change the ink cartridges. Locate the white plastic plate with 8 little white rollers along its front edge. About 1.5" from the right edge of this plate is slot about .25" wide, just under a metal bar going across the printer. Down in this slot is a little black plastic finger that gets lifted up when a piece of paper goes through. This little finger is the lower end of the paddle above. Poke gently on this little finger with a little stick or dowel rod. Make sure there's no paper under it. Put the lid down and try it. If still giving the paper jam error, you'll have to take the whole blooming cover off to get to the paddle. I put a piece of black electrician's tape over the paddle to extend it forward to be sure to interrupt the beam. The key to opening the cover is to start with the gray plastic pieces on each side. They move down toward the floor about 1/8" to come off. Be gentle. Try never to tip the printer on its side ink will run and make a mess. I highly recommend a pair of rubber gloves once inside -my fingers got green ink on them and it doesn't come off. Good luck.

PIXMA MP 460 will not delete a print document. appears stuck with "error processing command" Cannot print other docs
1. First, try turning printer off and on.
2. Next, on the computer side, this is how you manually clear the printer queue.
1. Go to Start, Control Panel and Administrative Tools. Double click on Services icon.
2. Scroll down to the Print Spooler service and right click on itand select Stop. In order to do this, you need to be logged in asAdministrator. At this point, no one will be able to print anything onany of the printers that are being hosted on this server.
3. Next you need to go to the following directory: C:WINDOWSSystem32spoolPRINTERS.Delete all the files in this folder. This will clear all print queues(it’s a good idea to first make sure there are no other print jobsbeing processed on any of the other printers on the server becausedoing this step will delete those jobs also)
4. Now you can go back to the Services console and right-click and choose Start for the Print Spooler service!
You can also go to a command prompt and type net stop spooler or net start spooler to start and stop the service.
I hope this helps. If you have more questions, let me know.

I have an error message saying, "The paper is jammed. Clear the paper and press [OK]". But there isn't a paper jam and pressing OK doesn't do anything.
How can I do double-sided printing with my Canon MP460?
Hi there! You printer does not have an automatic duplex(double-sided printing)so you have to make a manual double-sided printing. When you start to print something , in the widow of the printer click on the preferences and look for the option "Print on both sides" or "Manual double-sided printing".When you start the printing the printer will print page page 1,3,5,7..... on the one side of the paper. After the printer finish you have to take the papers and put them back in the printer with the other side of the paper. Then the printer will start print page2,4,6,8,.....If you need any other help please replay!Tghaky for using Fixya!!

canon mp495 keeps jamming. Error code E3
After searching the net for help and trying many things like unpluging the printer, taking out the ink cartridges, blowing and hooving the printer etc etc and still not having any luck. I tried something myself and it worked.
This is what I did:-
I got several sheets of A4 paper and forced them into the printer just enough to get the rollers to bite. (Printer is off at this stage) Once the paper is in I turned the printer back on and the printer pulled the paper through and out of the front clearing the problem.
Well this worked for and I hope it helps someone else.
