First make sure that the photos are not actually on the camera's internal memory and not shot on the card to start with. Do this by trying to look at the photos through the camera with the card out of the card slot. Next before taking anymore pictures try putting the card into a different computer and card reader. If it still shows up empty you can try several recovery softwares online for free, only paying for them after they have found your photos and are ready for saving. Alkaline battery performance is limited, especially at low temperatures. The use of NiMH batteries is recommended. Never use manganese (Zinc-Carbon) batteries in your camera. They can't deliver enough power.

Do you have the optional sd memory card instaleld in the camera? Have you formated the sd memory card or MMC card as suggested on page 37 of the user manual. on page 36 on image storage settings = If set on Auto it uses the external card if there is one installed rather than the internal memory. If it is under warranty i advice you give it for service as this is a pretty complicated procedure to get it fixed.
This error is caused due to the failure of lens alignment system.Try following the procedure below..
it may be the lens contacts or grit in the gears
open it up on the side of the lens you will see a row of thin gold coloured contacts that report the lens position back to the cpu sometimes these get dirty or bent.on the side of the lens is a motor, look where the gear meets the lens and use a pin to flip out any grit that is stuck in the teeth.
Its very unlikely the lens is "out of alignment" this just cant happen unless its been dropped or bashed, in which case it may be broken.
Also i have heard some people bashing the camera a couple of times to get it working..
hold the camera and bash the edge next to the lens against the palm of you hand as hard as you can, one I did have to get a little more medieval on and bashed aginst a bit of carpet on the bench.. but it worked... might be worth a go if the next step is the bin...
