Did you ever find an answer to this? I have the same issue?
My 50 inch plasma pioneer
Check in your menu under video and see if there are 3 gamma settings for the Red, Blue and Green. Some plasma's have that feature, why, I don't know, they only cause issues with the consumer. They are listed in the service mode but if I were you I wouldn't go there and besides it's a million to one that your son happened to hit that lottery.
Does this TV overheat and fail if installed in a
ANY TV WILL FAIL IF PROPER COOLING IS NOT PRESENT. A GOOD RULE OF THUMB IS AT LEAST 2 INCHES OF CLEARANCE AROUND THE ENTIRE SET. ANYTHING LESS, I WOULD RECOMMEND ADDITIONAL COOLING SOLUTIONS.
Unable to access digital audio output options
Well you also need to have a digital feed to the television. example: When I run my optical cable from my dvd player to my television directly. I went in to my menu options on my source and enabled this. If you are wanting to run this feed to your a/v amp? You may want to run the original feed from your dvd player to your amplifier directly, you will get a sound quality that is far superior to what you seem to be doing here.

Hi,
Is the TV HD ready or 16:9 compatible? If so, there are settings in the user's menu to adjust the aspect ratio of the set. Usually giving selections for auto format, 4:3, 16:9 cinema, or wide, stretch, and so on. If it offers automatic aspect, that's the way to go. Sounds like it's in the "zoom" mode (if it's a 16:9 capable set). If it's not, there is likely some adjustments needed by a technician. The service menu will need to be accessed. I do not suggest the customer try to use the service menu, since there are several alignment settings that can really screw things up if maladjusted.
Thanks
Smith.
