You need to buy the Navteq map update, but you can call them and send in your memory card they will update it for a reduced cost, since 75 plus 12 shipping is too much just for maps, you can buy a whole new one.

Having the same plugin doesn't guarantee that it is the correct polarity (if dc) nor the correct voltage, nor that it is AC when you require DC etc. If you put the wrong adapter on and you are not very electrically inclined... you can blow the power circuit inside the unit.

The rechargeable battery is more than likely the problem and will need replaced, or the charging circuits are not functioning, "less likely"

Begin with the iWAY 250C turned off, not just on stand-by. Stand-by is the default setting for the unit when powering down. Change the settings in the interface menu to power off instead of defaulting to stand-by when the power button is pressed. Connect the iWAY 250C to an available PC port. With the PC turned on and operating, turn the iWAY 250C on. The PC should make a sound recognizing a USB connection. If there is no audible sound, try another USB port on your PC. If there is a tone of recognition and the iWAY 250C is not displayed as a separate drive in My Computer, there may be a drive conflict. Change the drive letter of the iWAY 250C. Click here if you have a drive conflict with Windows 95, 98, or ME.

Sometimes it pays to procrastinate. My 250c gps was left in a drawer for a year and a half as I hesitated to pitch it. I turned it on recently and everything works good as new. The battery was still fully charged! It must have dried out over time.

Does this unit have an input for an external antenna? If you get/borrow another antenna you could see if it starts working. That might isolate the problem to the antenna.

Only soft reset is available.

This will reset all settings to factory, but will not erase personal data.

To do soft reset boot up holding the MAP/MUSIC button and the power button at the same time. Leave buttons only when you see that the scroll bar at the bottom has finished. The iWAY will reset to default settings.

that sounds like an inverter board getting nutsy.
if you can find one on ebay or in retail shop , they are not hard to swap.

i am an ex volvo master aftermarket stuff just doesnt work on these cars get one from volvo

make sure your card is not a too higher value than the unit can deal with. 4GB cards do not work

when it happens just restart or reset the gps or gps lock from settings.

if you can't find gps reset from the menu, then look for a reset button on the device, should work normally again.
