I suggest you read some books on electronics repair, either online or from a library, then net browse for books on similar model, type. Self study is the best way to learn things. It is very difficult for people like us who offer preliminary first-aid solutions to problems posted here. Apart from the study, you need special tools including electronic measuring instruments.

That is quite an interesting problem. Your problem could be anything I suppose, but I would lean towards your "Y" or driver boards. Let me ask this: does this same thing happen if you shut the set off and then turn it back on immediately or does the bottom appear more quickly, or is it there immediately? If it disappears again and takes about the same amount of time or only slightly less time to come back I would probably look for bad caps somewhere in the set. Likely these would be on the power supply. This shouldn't cost much for parts if that's the problem.. If your picture comes back immediately or if the time for it to come back is very short I would venture to say you have some sort of heat related issue in your "Y" board and/or lower driver board. This may be an expensive fix. The boards may end up costing you around $200, possibly more. Good luck.

The fix for this set is usually to replace the y-sus and z-sus boards at the same time. If you send them out you can have them rebuilt but usually only replacing one is only a temporary repair. I am very experienced on these, trust me. Sorry for the bad news. Good Luck, Russmann.

Plasma tvs do not have a backlight. That being said this is a problem with the sustain board. I believe it is where the blown capacitor is. I would like you to turn off the set, unplug it from power and take off the back cover. Locate the boards labelled X-main and Y-main. See if you can find anything blown on them and let me know

Hi,

he pop you heard was probably a scan IC on the Y buffer board or an FET on the Y sustain or z sustain boards.

All of these boards are board level repair, you need to replace the defective board in order to repair the tv set.

I'm not sure about your electronic or tv repair background, but if you have any,and some equipment(multimeter),you could try to fix this yourself.

The Y sustain board is the one to the left from power supply(from the back).

Check any fuse on this board-if any is open=replace the Y sustain.

Same thing for the Z sustain-the one far to the right from the back)

if no open fuse on any of the Y sustain or Z sustain-then some voltage readings will be necessary to diagnose the defective board.

-Vy,is a voltage on Y board-if is too low, disconnect the Y buffer and check again.I voltage comes back up(around-190V,see the exact value on the panel label),then replace the Y buffer.

If still to low, then replace the Y sustain.

It may seem confusing, but these are the steps for a complete diagnose!

Based on my experience with these LG/Zenith units, about 90% of the time is the Y sustain board.

To add on this, most of these models have 2 years warranty.Do not open the TV if it is under warranty.By opening the TV, you would VOID the warranty, and might end up paying a hughe amount. If you are in India, then these parts could be obtained by contacting a local repair shop of repute. He needs to order the board from the dealer and could take a week or so. But, it would be tough to get a qualifies professional who actually work on Plasma's in India.Unfortunately, most of the shops do claim that they could repair plasma, but none of them actually have the qualification or training that is required to get this repaired. For parts or repair, you could contact LG at :-

Hope i helped you.

You need to monitor your standby voltages first, to see how stable they are 5v-3.4v-12v. If they are stable then locate the ON command pin going to the inverter board and see if it is going High then Low. If it is then replace the main board.

Cant get audio when i

Ok, hi, I imagine that you are hooking up vis the HDMI, in SOME sets you also need to use the RED & WHITE Audio OUT, to Audio IN, as some HDMI's do NOT support the Audio, (They should though).
If connecting up COMPONENT Video, the Blue, Green & red, connections, then also too you need to run the Red & White, stereo audio output too.

The only other way is the COMPOSITE Video, the Yellow connection jack, here too you also need to run the Red & White Audio again.

Also ensure you sound is turned up Via the TV's remote, Also the DVD's Audio output must be set too, as BOTH will control the sound, and BOTH must be set to allow sound to be heard.
If you have all this correct, then you may have an issue with your DVD, if possible please try on another set, to prove it all actually works.

LG PLASMA TV MADE A LOUD POP NOISE NOW PICTURE IS

Hello,

A common problem for these is bad capacitors in the power supply, Remove the back from your TV and look at the power supply on the left hand side.

You will see roughly around 9 x capacitors that are bulged / domed shaped on top usually these are valued at 3300uf 10V any that have bulged or leaked a brown like substance should be changed.
This will cure the problem as they overheat being sat next to a heatsink that gets very hot!
Try and change them for the same 3300uf but a higher voltage.
Hope this helps

IC 18 ON YSUS BOARD

I checked for the listing of the IC you are wanting, and LG is not listing those anywhere because they are not selling them as a component. That is why my service manual does not list the parts.
I had my guy at LG parts look at the board to give me the number directly, but he said the number is a “user-numbers” and it would not cross. He tried to look up the user numbers on that IC but again, they are not listed anywhere at LG.
I tried the best I could.
Good Luck.
