You may need to uninstall an old/ outdated driver first. Here are some of the steps Sandisk recommends and they are pretty common to solutions for other MP3 players.http://kb.sandisk.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/42/~/sansa-player-not-recognized-by-the-computer

First, make sure it's a microSD card and not a microSDHC card. If your card is larger than 2GB then it won't work in the c250.Second, make sure all your music in a folder named "MUSIC" at the root of your card. You can have subfolders in that folder, but the top folder must have that name.

Three possibilities; 1) You have a dead battery because the battery is no good.2) You have a dead battery because your Sansa is no longer charging the battery.3) You have a dead battery because you didn't leave your Sansa tethered long enough to charge it up.When you have the Sansa c250 tethered to the computer, you should see a tiny yellow lightning bolt flashing, and a battery icon that shows the amount of charge on the battery. If you see the lightning bolt, but the battery does not charge after being tethered to a working computer or charger for 24 hours, you may need a new battery. You can get one on Amazon.com. You just need to let it charge for a longer time.If you do not see the lightning bolt when the player is tethered, and the battery indicator shows "empty," It's likely that the internal plug to your Sansa c250 has broken. Your Sansa is no longer able to charge the battery. If you happen to be an electrical engineer, or otherwise have a shop full of electronics equipment (including signal injector, volt-ohm meter, needle-tip soldering iron, and stereo magnifying goggles with work lamps) you may be able to fix it yourself. Otherwise, forget it-- your Sansa is dead.If it's still under warranty, try to get it replaced. Failing that, it's time to get a new MP3 player.Hope that helps! Use the supplied Sansa Media Converter program to convert your photos (and videos) to a format the Sansa can handle. If you don't have the SMC, you can download the Windows version from

The software that came with Sansa C250 only contains the userguide and Rhapsody installation disc. The Player itself is a Plug and Play device. Provided that your computer meets the minimum system requirements.

Update the firmware manually by downloading from the SanDisk forum
1. On your Sansa c200, verify the hardware revision.
a. From the Main Menu, go to Settings > Info.
b. Select Version.
- If the Version is V01.xx.xxx, you have the c200v1. Go to the c200v1 firmware thread
- If the Version is V03.xx.xxx, you have the c200v2. Go to the c200v2 firmware thread
