Keeps saying USB not connected
Ok - the reason this error pops up is because there is a software issue going on. If the software is correctly installed you will see options for where the scan will go in the computer.
Having said that there are several things that can cause a problem between the printer and the software;
1) You are connecting the printer by USB to router - you may print but will never be able to scan as this is not a networkable printer. Connect it directly to your computer and recomplete the setup portion to configure the scanner.
2) You have not finished the setup. At the end of the installer you can setup the scanner but if you skipped this step you will have to redo it in order for it to connect. Click on the device manager in your dock and then next to information and settings there will be a little wheel. Click on the wheel and go to setup assistant. Complete the assistant and try to scan.
3) The printer is not grabbing the new software options - leave the printer turned on but unplug the power cord and wait for 30 seconds. Plug printer back in - when you do this it should initialize and will look to the mac for changes and the options should load.
4) Software missing - You MUST have the software for the printer installed for scanning function. Adobe and other programs cannot replace it - it has to be installed.
5) Software is corrupted. Uninstall the software (uninstaller is under applications in the HP folder) and then download (www.hp.com) and install the most recent full feature software and drivers for your operating system.
6) If all these steps fail you may have an issue with your computer and it's TWAIN drivers.
HEY SOMEONE LOST CD FOR
Hello,
You should be able to get the drivers
here. Just enter your exact printer model in the Search by printer model field and press Enter.
Click the Download Driver link and choose your operating system in the Select Windows field. Then on the next page, choose the Download Now link on the right.
On the next page you may see a yellow security banner at the top of the browser. If so, click it and choose Download File. After that, choose Save to start the download. After the download completes you can double click the file to start the installation.
Hope this helps. Please remember to rate this information.
Thanks
Paper jam alarm and paper only starts to feed
I had this problem at work several times. Unplug your printer from the back, wait 2 or 3 minutes, plug back in, problem solved! Also, if this doesn't work, (I'm at home now), but I believe that I got that info from the HP troubleshooting website. Good Luck!

Hi I don't know how
Pull down the front cover by placing your hand on the right hand side of the printer. The white panel facing you will flip down. The cartridges are found on the right side when looking at the front of the printer. There is a diagram on the inside of the panel door which tells you how to insert the cartridges. There are two of them, the left one is color and the right one is black and white. Depending on what the printouts look like, you'll need to either replace both or just one of them. Place your thumb on the top of the cartridge and gently press down and pull towards the front. It should "unclick" and come out. If it's not moving and you're exerting too much force, you may be doing it incorrectly. Each cartridge is removed in similar fashion. Grasp the new replacement cartridge and pull the clear plastic piece off if it's present, then pul the taped tab off the bottom. Insert the new cartridge with the label facing up so that you can read the words. Put the bottom in first (the part where you removed the tape) at a 45 degree angle, then place your thumb on top and push up and forward to snap in the new cartridge. After you insert the cartridge(s), close the front white panel. The printer should recognize the cartridges and start aligning them and you should be able to print after that. If it gets stuck aligning, you may need to power off the print and turn it back on. Hope this helps!
I think my ink cartridges
Yes they are refillable. All you need to do is buy some refilling kit and an ink bottle that is compatible with your printer.
Printer works but will not scan.
Here's my GEEK-steer ...
First, try a quick "Hot Plug":
-
Disconnect the USB cable from the printer.
-
Wait 10 sec's.
-
Reconnect the USB cable.
-
Test scan again.
No joy? Oh well, it was a long shot anyway. In that case, let's continue the journey ...
"...unable to COMPLETE the driver downloads using the disc which came with the printer bu have got it working using the WINDOWS WIZARD FACILITY." ... What I'm hearing is:
-
You have previously attempted to install the printer using the HP disk that came with it, but it was never COMPLETED successfully.
-
It was then subsequently installed using only the resident Windows generic drivers ("WINDOWS WIZARD FACILITY"/Device Manager).
If that is essentially accurate, then there is both your problem AND YOUR SOLUTION. Printers can be the most persnickety of all devices to install ... they want what they want, and that's just the way it's gonna be! Although Windows commendably satisfied your printer with satisfactory enough drivers to get it working, it obviously didn't meet the mark well enough to facilitate scanning.
As a cardinal rule, I employ the dreaded (and much-too-often advised) "uninstall/reinstall" as an absolute final resort. In this case though, that is the most advisable thing for you to do. Most devices (and printers especially) need to be installed using the latest and best (usually from its manufacturer) drivers available. Therefore ...
UNINSTALL ALL ASSOCAITED SOFTWARE.
-
Start > Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs
-
Select the HP all-in-one software entry in the list of installed programs.
-
Click Remove.
-
Disconnect the USB cable from the computer.
-
Restart (reboot) your PC.
REINSTALL.
Good luck, and post back with a status report and/or any further questions.
