Garmin NUVI 660 - can not locate satellite

My garmin Nuvi 660 lost its satellite connection on the middle of a trip yesterday and couldn't locate the satellite afterwords. It freezes up at the aquiring satellite mode for ever. I updated all the firmwares using the Garmin webupdater today. Now it sits at the locating satellite screen and doesn't lock to any satellite at all. I cannot register with Garmin as I don't have the yellow paper with the Garmin registration code as it was an openbox customer return item. Could anyone please help me to fix this problem.

These are the instructions I got from Garmin as how to do the Master reset:

Here are the steps to backing up the favorites on your unit and then performing the master reset. First, you’ll want to plug your unit into your computer via USB cable. Once it’s plugged in, you’ll want to go to My Computer in your start menu or from your desktop and double-click on the Nuvi. At this point, you should see a few folders, but you’ll want to double-click on the Garmin folder. Here, you’ll want to look for the “GPX” folder and you’ll double-click on that. In this folder, you’ll want to drag and drop the file titled “Current.gpx” to your desktop to copy it. Now you are able to do the master reset.

To do that, you’ll want to start with the unit turned off and press and hold on the upper left hand corner of the touch screen. While holding the touch screen, power the unit on and continue to hold. You should get a message that asks if you really want to go into maintenance mode and you’ll want to select “Yes”. At this point, you’ll want to select “clear user data” and then select “Yes” when it asks you if you really want to clear user data. Now, the unit should restart and you’ll want to take it where it has a clear view of the sky and let it sit for up to 30 minutes to acquire satellites. If after 30 minutes it does not acquire satellites, you can go ahead and reply back to me.

Either way, once we have your unit back working again, you can follow the first set of steps again to get to the GPX folder and drag the “Current.gpx” folder from your desktop to that folder on your unit. This will replace your favorites.

The ribbon cables are clameped in place. The look like they would slide out from the connector if you pulled then hard enough,... you do NOT want to do that. The black portion of the connector is actually a hinged clamp. With the unit lying on a table, face up as it you were using it; lift the top screen half away for the bottom half and tilt it toward yourself. You should see the ribbon cable and the red & blk wires. For the wide center connector and the one on the right, the black piece hinges up an away from you (towards the top). Try the one on the right first. When you flip it up, the ribbon will pretty much fall out. Pry the wide center one on the ends, NOT in the center. The narrow one on the left tilts donw towrds you. For the antenna, the hinged peice is brown, and it flips up towards the right. This one does not just fall out. It needs some gentle wiggeling. Also, I was able to use a T6 torx, T5 seemed a little loose,... yo don't want to strip any screws or you'll be screwed. SpaceVector

Garmin 660 gps Bluetooth problem

Ok, i've tried everthing to fix my problem including resetting my device, deleting and setting up the bluetooth config, also downloading and installing the FileBlueTooth.zip file to no avail.
Here is my problem: It was all working 2 days after i brought it and configured it. Could see all my contacts, txt messages and other stuff, make calls through the gps to my mobile (Sony Ericsson W850i)
How, when I start the phone and the 660 it detects and connects, I can see my txts and contacts on the 660 via bluetooth to my mobile, but the Bluetooth disconnects after 10secs on the 660. When I enable bluetooth on the 660 it just sits there with the message Enabling Bluetooth.
I've updated the software from Garmin including the Bluetooth patch...
Any Ideas!!!

My nuvi 610/660 won't turn on unless plugged in. When it's plugged in it only goes as far as showing the sign that reads "Garmin Nuvi".

folks, the garmins have an on-board battery that needs to be powered up (at least occasionally) via the usb port - like from your computer. just using the dc car power cord does nothing for this battery. i've had this exact same problem on both my 760 and 780 nuvi units. fixed it using the usb charge. seems to run down differently for all the various nuvi models. my regular charge will hold for 7 hours on my old 660, my 760 and 780 work about 5 hours. my 'power up' failed on the 660 after 10 months with no internal battery charge, but the 7xx models only took about 5-6 months to 'fail.' hope this helps. jack b :-) in midland, tx usa

Garmin Nuvi shuts itself off after only seconds during navigation

Why is Garmin shutting itself off after seconds of navigation. I turn it back on and it only stays on for a few more seconds then screen goes black again. Granted today is rainy and overcast and I haven't had this problem before... any suggestions or explanation as to why it is shutting itself down in the middle of navigation?

Is the battery charged? What does the battery indicator say? If you are using it in the car, is the power cord connected and working properly? If it is working correctly, you should see a lightning bolt symbol over the battery bar graph showing that it is connected to an external power source and that it is charging.

Nuvi 200w map download and sd card

I just bought the Nuvi 200w yesterday. I registered and downloaded the free 2009 map. While trying to install the map on the gps, a window popped up saying I needed 37 more MB of space on the garmin unit. I installed a new universal 2GB SD Card in the garmin unit to solve this problem. No change. Still get the same window. Is the Nuvi200w software not recognizing the sd card? How do you solve the problem I'm incurring while trying to download the new maps?

Guys and or ladies... I know that you have to create a folder named "GARMIN" in the sd card so the maps can be recognize. Maybe this solves your problem. Let me know if it works.

replacement battery for Garmin Nuvi 660

Did you find out how to replace the battery? I bought a battery and tool kit for $25 (plus shipping) from BatteryShip.com but there were no directions with it.

The replacement comes with a connector on the lead wires, so I only really need to know how to open it up without damaging the unit.

I discovered a recently posted video showing how to change the Nuvi 660's battery. I purchased a battery from newpower99.com and they took care of me well. My little "surgery" went smoothly with their kit.

White "press dot" screen

My Garmin comes on and then after showing the "Garmin" start up it goes to a blank white screen with a little black dot in the bottom left corner and it says "press dot". But I press the dot and nothing happens. It is stuck on this screen.

The actual answer is to press the dots, but use a dull plastic tool that fits "within" the dot. Otherwise the width of your finger is too imprecise to calibrate the dots and screen.

Hope you, and others, get this and try it. It works. I just discovered it and did it, successfully after only about 10 presses.
