Garmin is voluntarily recalling certain nuvi devices that contain a specific battery that was manufactured by a third-party supplier within a limited date code range.
Garmin has identified potential overheating issues with the use of these batteries in certain nuvi devices with a specific printed circuit board (PCB) design. Additional information about the nuvi battery PCB recall can be found in Service Alert Number: 1035.

The models that may be impacted by the nuvi battery PCB recall are the 200W, 250W, 260W, 7xx and 7xxT (where xx is a two-digit number). To determine if your unit is affected, please visit www.garmin.com/nuvibatterypcbrecall and enter your nuvi's serial number. If your unit has the specific PCB design and contains a battery from the specific date range, you will be given instructions on how to return your nuvi for a battery replacement at no charge.
You should not attempt to remove or service the battery on your own; all battery replacements must be serviced through Garmin's authorized service provider.

I recommend the Navigon series of GPS. I have owned almost every manufacturer and Navigon ha done it right, and they offer a traffic module that is a lifetime ownership for a one-time purchase. And it works fantrastically compared to every other GPS have or have had (they get stolen a lot).

If the battery is in good condition, just a couple hours. Plug the charger into the unit and you should see a yellow lightning bolt over the battery status indicator. 4 green bars means the battery is charged. Anything less and it is not.

To leave the unit in charge, press the on/off power button until the screen says battery charging. You can check the charging status by just touching the screen. If it says battery charge complete, then you are done.

Make sure your City Navigator map is enabled. To check your map, press the wrench/tools button, then the map icon and then press "map info".

You should see your map listed with a box next to it. This boxed should be checked. If it's not, then your map is turned off. Press the box and to place a checkmark in the box. This will turn your map back on.

Do you have a SD card installed on your unit? If so, try removing it and power up the unit to see if it comes on. Also, have you tried to update the unit? If not, here is a link to the "WebUpdater" software.

Typically, when the unit is turned on, the satellitetechnology is able to pin point the unit's current location and provide mapsbased on the user's position. However, if there is not a clear signal or youare located in a different country than the ending destination you are tryingto program into the unit, you may have to manually change the country. For thatplease follow these steps: 1. Touch anywhere on the display screen to access the mainmenu. 2. Tap or select the "Change Preferences" options. 3. Navigate to your map settings. In a Garmin this will belocated under the "View Maps" and then "Change Maps"settings. 4. Use the "Up" and "Down" arrows toscroll through the list of available countries. Once the country you arelooking for is highlighted, press the "OK" button. You will then beasked to select a state or more specific region in the selected country.
