Ok well all I can suggest is this... first try a NON-crossover cable.. 2nd.. try the address of 10.1.1.1 The server should be setup according to the manual.. and should be detected upon connection, Also is the server to be set up to ASSIGN an address via it's DCHP or to RECIEVE one from ya lappy? I mean basically it is just a network device that sends stuff when asked, not unlike a networked Hard Drive etc. Usually ya set up the lappy for DHCP and the Video Server gets it's address from the lappy, & when "Polled" sends data to whomever "Polled" it.

Reset your SNT-V704:Open it up and press the reset button on the main PCB 5 times while it is on. You can find the reset switch lower right corner when the front facia faces the ground. This worked for me.I know this is an old question but I haven't found this solution on the net so let me know if it helps anyone.

Hi Good day!!! Maybe it is grounded, did you try to use another microphone? and still the same? well try to move your Sony SNT-V704 not to close to your PC and, maybe it is receiving feedback from your PC, that's why you receiving unknown noises..

If your unit keeps crashing this could be a sign of over heating. There is a way to test if it is an overheating issue and that is as the unit is playing use a hot air gun to raise the temperature and trigger the problem once the bad component is found replace it.

Why do they need to be turned on all the time? If your using them as security cameras they are not designed for that job. The 330 could be overheating because of the constant use.
