Dell Inspiron 8200 Latitude C840 Laptop Keyboard03J247 CD-ROM Drive Questions & Answers
C840 will not boot up
Quick power off means a hardware fault. Remove the memory sticks and boot the laptop. If you get an error message, the memory sticks are bad. Replace them. If it still doesn't boot to BIOS, your motherboard has failed and needs to be replaced. It can't be "repaired" cost-effectively. And since the Inspiron C840 is a very old laptop, probably not worth fixing. You CAN get your data off the hard drive by slaving it to another computer. Google " hooking up an external hard drive".
Mouse not working
down load drivers from the manufacturers web sites for each individual item in use
No bootable device
I think you must reload the operating system and buy yourself a GOOD virus/malware protection software. If you do not have the recovery disc set contact the customer service number for your computer manufacturer to buy the set. Here is a link to the Dell support website.

Diagnostic Test Results: "Right Battery
Does the battery appear to charge? If it does, then it's the battery.
If it doesn't, try another adapter - and if it does the same thing, you
have a motherboard in need of repair or replacement.

Did you ever solve the non-recognition problem?
My C840 fails to recognize the/an extra HD in the modular bay, after I "overfilled(??)" it.
What to do to regain access to information stored on HD that the computer no longer recognizes? (Other components, including other HD's continue to work ok in the modular bay).

White screen on C840
Hi There,
A white screen is almost always the symptom of a failed LCD. The easiest way to check this is to connect the laptop to an external monitor. If it displays normally there, you've got your diagnosis, order and install new LCD. If the white screen is on both the external and the laptop monitor, the problem is on the motherboard and almost certainly the video processor/controller chip. That's when you have to decide whether to send the laptop to a motherboard repair facility (many on eBay are quite good), comparing their prices to acquiring a different used/new laptop.
If you are capable of replacing a motherboard yourself, you can look for replacement mobos online. Sometimes these can be reasonably priced or so incredibly expensive that it defies reason why they are even trying to sell them.
Good Luck
Dell c840 no video from dvd
Hi,
That problem seems to be related to software not CD/DVD drive.
Would you please explain the problem?
As I understand you are trying to play a movie from a DVD/CD on your CDRW/DVD driver. And it has sound but no video.
Is that right?
- What is your operating system, version?
- Which software were you using to run the video on the DVD/CD?
- What is the format of file on the DVD/CD?

My Dell C840 Latitude has a 1.8Ghz processer but
Go Into Control Panel, select Power Options, and change Power Scheme from Laptop/Laptop to Home/Office Desk. Make sure you have AC Adapter plugged in and your should now be using all of CPU. Check System icon from Control Panel to confirm. CPU usage may show as less when laptop is booted from battery power only.
Can not get my Dell Latitude C840 to boot.
pretty sure you have your jumper config wrong its probally conflicting with the cd rom's settings and probally cancelling them both out try moving the jumpers on the HDD's hope this helps ;)
Why can't I use my Yahoo groups?
Hello and thank you for using Fixya services.
From the sounds of your issue, it may be that you have malware or a Trojan. You can run a scan using this free malware/antivirus protection. I am not sure which antivirus you are currently using but this one is free and has excellent reviews. You will need to uninstall your current antivirus protection first before installing this one.
Malware/Trojans can disable your antivirus programs and make it look like everything is running smoothly. By running a complete scan with another program, you can get the malware out. Even the best antivirus can be disabled.
Please let me know I can be of further assistance.
