Very slow in turning on, 3-5 min. Then works
Possible issues in the Power section or the main board . If you can use a hair dyer to heat areas slowly the fault area can be found out easily as the set gets triggered when warm a possible fault in the capacitor of either of these stages.
Be very careful and you will be able to get to the fault as the set is live.
Check for leaked capacitor or smell in this sections.

After power on the screen
This is a problem with the vertical circuit and can be as simple as poor connections at the vertical IC or a defective IC. Expect a parts cost in the $25 range for this repair.

Picture flashes on and off, after it takes awhile
The vacuum within your picture tube is evacuating. This is technically known as a "High GR" (Gas Ratio) condition. The CRT picture tube would need to be replaced to repair the TV. This would not be very economical. You should consider replacing the TV as soon as finances permit. I hope this was helpful, best wishes.

Sony trinitron xbr screen periodically goes black
Sony sets have several protective circuits that blank the screen if something happens that might damage the picture tube. One of the more common causes is trouble in the vertical output circuit. Given the age of your TV (the XBR models have been around a while), this might also be a symptom of a picture tube starting to fail. Most of these sets have circuitry (called AKB) that adjusts the color drive signals to the picture tube to keep them balanced. If one of the colors is enough out of range the screen will blank. It might be the tube itself, or failure of some part in that AKB circuit. The set might also have defective parts in the input switching or video processing stages.
Unfortunately, I can't suggest any place you might look if you want to try repairing this on your own. This kind of trouble usually needs to be diagnosed and repaired by a professional TV technician who has the service information to track it down.
Hope this has been helpful. Thanks for using Fixya!

Hi there
Sorry to be the one to have tell you that but yes your tube is dying.
In sony tv`s the video(picture) is off until the tube has warmed up and now that it is getting weaker it has difficulty reaching the point where it will bring out the video.
If you want to clear that problem for a while , you can open the back of the set.
You will see a round transformer(flyback) with two controls on it and a thick red wire that connects to the back of the tube.
With the tv on turn the lower control up slowly , you`ll see the brilliance go up and that will help with the flashing picture for a while.
If you see lines across the picture when you adjust that control it is because you have reach the max the tube can take , just turn it back down until they disappear .
Hope this help have fun

2007 Sony Trinitron WEGA will not turn on (no nioses, nothing)
right if it has been struck by lightning then a wide array of components will be shorted in the powersupply from diodes to capacitors, resistors and driver IC's , the fuse and Mains Transformer and all will need to be tested individualy but if they look black and charred then they need to be replaced.
