Dell plasma 42 inch

fot the most part, you have solved your problem (pow bd), The main bd may also need to be replaced as well. The is a signal upon powering up the system. the pow bd communicates with the signal board. The signal bd, also is responsible for ALL of your additional I/O lines. Between the two of these, + a firmware update, i think the tv will be just fine.

Dell W4201C half black screen

It should be easy enough for a Novice to fix.
Most likely the TV has a power supply related problem. The most common thing to go out is the circuit board that supply power to the screen. Commonly called a Backlight Inverter Board.
But, I can't say it's 100% the problem because I can't actually look at the tv over the internet.
If by chance the TV is still under warranty, go that route.
If not under warranty and If you have some electronic experience, if you can find and purchase a Service Manual over the internet and diagnose the source of the problem and fix it by soldering in the new part. The Service Manual will give you circuit diagrams, test points, and part# lists. Usually, cost under $20.

I hope I shed some light on the subject for you.

RE: Dell W4201C

Hi,

a few things, on checking the ground, are you sure you have a good connection (try scratching or pushing harder with your probe tips) to ensure that is 0v they should all be reference gnd which is 0v

did you know that there are two (2) power supplies? This set has a power and sub power supply, did you check both?

I tried to look at your posted pic, but that site blocked your image (no hotlinks allowed)

Dell 4201C Horizontal static lines

its the ss logic board. It is located behind the main board assembly. Its purpose is to send the signal to the mainboard for video clarity. The mainboard is OK, it the board below it. there is a numeric stamp on the board. Locate that number and google it or get back to me I may be able to further assist you.

I have a 42 Dell Plasma... there is a recurring

I would guess a cable connected to the LCD panel of the TV.

Left Side and Right side of the picture each has a Flat Cable that supplies voltage for that half of the picture.

I would guess that one of the cables is bad or loose.

It is also possible the LCD Panel has some defective part.

I would contact Dell requesting Warranty Repair. If out of Warranty, you can open TV and try reconnecting the wires to the LCD Panel. Specifically, LVDS cable to the Control PWB and the Flat wires from the Control PWB.

CONTROL PWB: This PWB is usally mounted to the upper middle portion of the LCD panel beneath a metal shield. This PWB Provides the signal for the LCD Panel picture.

Dell 42" plazma tv

turn the tv with the rear cover facing you. power on the tv, look into the grills on the rear cover. If you happen to see 3 green lights together on the mainboard, you have communication signal. Otherwise, its the mainboard. If u get all 3, then its your Y main board and probably a lower or upper buffer, depending on where burn is located on panel board.

Plasma wont turn on? only power button will.

The problem is a $1.09 part. You will need a soldering gun, multimeter, etc.. Or someone else who is electronically inclined.

The fix for it is here:
http://www.instructables.com/id/Dell-W5001C-50quot-plasma-fix/

I have the 46" Dell model with the same problem and this fixed it. Part cost $1.09 plus shipping.
I can't take credit for this persons post so post thanks on fix.

Just note, TV's can hold electricity even after being unplugged. So if you try this keep that in mind. You shouldn't mess with it until an hour or so after you unplug it. Or google "discharging capacitors" to discharge the electricity from the power board. Attempt at your own risk.
