Dell w4201c Plasma tv-bottom half of the screen
Your tv has a faulty Y-sus board. Since it comes back after a tap and you have no loose connectors, I believe its a cold solderjoint on the board itself. You will have to remove the board and take a closer look at the components to confirm this. Or a smarter way is to get a service manual follow the schematics ,measure the voltages and cross-check them with the service manual. If you want to avoid all this you can just get a new Y-sus board. The board usually costs well under hundred dollars and is relatively easy to replace "IF" you can follow a schematic.

Hi
Thanks for using FixYa. A
plasma TV is a very hard working device. It is working harder than any TV that
has been built before, and as a result it produces a lot of heat. 75% of
technical problems in plasma TV's are caused by overheating problems. If
you are looking for a replacement part I suggest starting with either the power
supply or the Y-Sus Board. If you are electronically inclined you can take the voltage
measurements across the labeled parts on the power supply that are the
following: VS, VSCAN, VSET, VE, and VA. These correct voltage measurements are labeled
on a sticker in the top right corner of the TV. If they all come out right then
your best bet would be replacing the Y-main board with both upper and lower
buffers. They are the circuit boards on the left hand side of the TV.

Hi
Thanks
for using FixYa. A plasma TV is a very hard working device. It is
working harder than any TV that has been built before, and as a result it
produces a lot of heat. 75% of technical problems in plasma TV's are caused by
overheating problems. X, Y sustain, buffer boards controls
picture, fires the gas, and many others functions. When either of these boards
goes bad common problems include negative image, no image, vertical or
horizontal stripes on picture, turns on and than turns off, and many more.
You’ll need to open the back off the TV and check for any swollen/bulged/leaky
capacitors on these boards and replace whichever has gone bad. All this is only
recommended if you have electrical expertise & know how to solder/re-solder
components as these units contain high voltages even when switched off.

Ysus board
the mainboard, controls the audio, Tv Tuners, Vga , HDMI, S- Video inputs.
The Y sus or (Y-Mainboard ) Is used to control the Panel (LCD) Video, it has 2 buffers that contol h/v lines in upper & lower regions.

its the problem of power supply board.the internal components on the power supply board is getting over heated in seconds after you turn it on and due to that it turn off .when gets cold it comes on.
tv
turning off automatically
for first unplug the main
power cord of the tv for couple of minutes and then reconnect it.also before
reconnecting the power cord of the tv again remove all the external device
wires connected at its back such as dvd player/vcr etc etc.just connect only tv
wire and check out.if still the same problem then its quite possible that the
capacitors and ic on the circuit board are getting short in between so the
circuit is not getting completed and cutting in between so the tv starts and
turns off.in this case the circuit board needs to be checked with a
multimeter.the faulty and burned out component part should be detected and then
should be replaced with the help of soldering iron.to make it proper.to avoid
further damage i suggest you that do not on the tv again and again as it will
short some more tiny components and the reparing cost will increase as per
that.at present its the normal circuit short problem in the tv get it repaired
before using the tv again.

the problem can be traced from the power bd. you will need a digital volt meter. There are settings located on a sticker located on the upper right corner Va,Vset,Ve, Vset etc..... each one has a DC voltage. compare the voltages to trace the source. My suggestion from experience is the Y Main upper or lower buffer which ever has a brn mark located on the metal of the panel. Google a local dell dealorship or a repair company in ur local area, and get serviced.
