Dell 4201C Plasma 42" -

Hi, Mary.

This sounds to me like it is a bulb issue, and not something worse, like failed capacitors.
If that is the case, then yes, it is worth repairing it.

You need to get the old bulb out, either by removing it yourself, or by having someone take it out for you, and the take the old bulb to Fry's or BestBuy.

They both keep tv projection bulbs for flat screen tv's in stock.

I hope that I've helped you understand what is going on, and that it helped.

Have a nice day, and good luck.

Hi,

check power and y sustain board is a relative large board on the left or right side of the TV display..

the problem of overheating in the power supply board of the TV.on the power supply board of the TV there are few capacitors and IC.any of this ic is got short or may be weak.so due to this when you start the TV the current passes from electric outlet to the power supply board of TV.but when the current passes from that weak/faulty part at that time current gets stopped or slow and the board overheats and TV shuts off. this is a common problem faced by many other users too.the possible option to solve this issue is to check the power supply board by a meter and continuity tester and replace the faulty component on the board which is short due to which power supply board is getting overheated.its bit technical job but yes its not at all a costly repair to do or get it done by the technician. for required parts it can be easily available from local electronic hardware shop.

I hope this will help in solving the problem.....

If the tv doesn't power up then the fault is big. Even if it's only in the power source if you don't have a  god experience in electronics it will cost you over $250 to call a repairman to fix it for you.
This was sold for parts, it's not for you.

Dell w4201chd 42" Plasma Tv.

OK, you need to replace the Power Supply Board. It is made by Samsung the number on the board will be LJ44-00110A. The Replacement number is LJ44-00019A,the cost is $349.00,however this part also crosses to a Phillips number 99500042146 which sells for $289.00 these are all the same board.I use the Phillips Board. Most repair shops will not do any research to locate these boards due to time and volume of repairs the have to deal with. Most call Dell and they won't give out repair info. They require it to be sent in.The Phillips board can be purchased from any NAP distributor.

Close caption

You need to turn on closed captions through the menu of your PVR. To have it on all the time, turn the box off, press menu on the front of the box, and scroll down to captions.
This should fix the problem

TV started being really slow

This is a problem with the YSUS and buffer boards. These boards are linked on the TV and due to heating issues, they tend to get damaged together and cause your TV to lose picture. These guys sell all 3 boards are are really reliable. I've used them before. http://www.itritek.com/ysusbufferforsale.html

Key lock on

Hello
Your Dell tV can be unlocked by reseting it to factory reset.
To reset it to factory reset do the folloing.

Enter the TV main Menu.
Select Factory Reset to return the TV Menu settings to the factory default values

NOTE: Before you proceed with the Factory Reset, enter a four-digit access code. The Factory Reset and
Parental Control always share the same access code. The default Parental Control code is 3355
NOTE: Parental Control setting can be reset by doing factory reset

If you ar unable to do this proceedings, do the unlock method used for Philips, and your TVs kit is of Philips.

Philips sets use a four digit code to control the v-chip. The override code for Philip sets is 0711, although it may say "Incorrect code" the first time to trick you. If "Incorrect code" is displayed, simply enter 0711 again. To use it hit the MENU key to get to the menus. Go up or down until you reach AUTOLOCK or SMARTLOCK, depending on the model, and push the "right arrow" key on the remote. Enter the override code, and enter it a second time if it says it is incorrect.

Once in the AUTOLOCK or SMARTLOCK menu, go to BLOCK, and push the "right arrow" key. Go to BLOCKING OPTIONS and press the "right arrow" key. Go to MASTER DISABLE and press the "right arrow" key so that it says "MASTER DISABLE ON". The v-chip is now reset.
OK.

I had a similar problem with my 42 in Philips LCD HDTV.

Here was the problem. My Power Supply Board had several bad capacitors. I opened my TV (warranty was expired of course) and found four bulged capacitors on the PSB. Many major electronics companies Philips/Magnavox, Sony, Panasonic, and others were sold capacitors that failed in 2-5 years instead of 10-20. The capacitors fail prematurely due to a lack of preservatives. Unfortunately, they were installed in all sorts of devices and cause a wide range of failure problems.

Here are some options for you.

1. Have it fixed by a professional $$$$$$$??????? (Is it under warranty?)

Remember, TVs CONTAIN HIGH VOLTAGE AND CAN KILL YOU! Do this at your own risk.

2. Open your TV and find PSB. (The board that the power cord plugs into) Check for faulty caps. If you find some (bulged or leaking) bad caps replace the entire board. The entire board costs around $250 right now because they are in high demand right now. They can be found online. I would definitely shop around though.

3. Remove and then replace individual faulty caps. This takes some soldering skill.

Caps are inexpensive and if you can take care of it yourself it will save you hundreds.

This may be your problem. If you determine that it might be.

I have a Tip/How TO tutorial on this site that may also help. It gives step by step instructions for replacing caps on PSB #715t2432-2. If this is your board you are in luck. Here is the Link: Fixing the Philips Turns/shuts off on its own problem. I

My T.V. will turn on,

Hi,

I am sorry to hear regarding the trouble. This is a common problem on these units. As unplugging and replugging won't help, this confirms that this is an internal failure and needs repair. The bad components could be a power supply board, Y sustain board or any of the buffer board. If you want to repair it, revert and i would be able to guide you.

However, you need to have some electronics repair experience as it would need you to open the TV, use multimeter and even soldering might be required. These sets are quite delicate, so needs to be handled with care.

Let me know,so that we could proceed.

Hope i helped you.

Thanks for using ' Fixya ' and have a nice day!!
