Volumn increases randomly and wont turn down
sounds like the main switch on the volume has come lose and is making the volume switch put sound up. take the switch out of the tv and cut out the switch, (square part with the metal button) clean the board were the switch is with some warm water on a cotton bud. put the top part back on and with some sellotape stick it over the hole part that you cut out. should be fine then. if it is the square button type soldered to the board just replace with a new one. they don't cost a lot to buy take the old one with you to maplins and they will get you a replacment.

No picture, sound ok
I have a similar issue. Sometimes the entire screen goes black and sometimes only one-half - either the top or bottom half goes black. The only solution we have found is to gently tap the TV (usually the front side) and the picture will come back for awhile. It almost seems heat related as it only goes out after the first 10 minutes of use. There must be a fix to this.

42PFL5332D/37 does not turn on red light flashes 6 times.
Don't have a "solution" yet, but found this table that decodes the blinks:
Error Code Table
0 = No error
1 = X-ray protection, E/W protection, and/or Vertical protection active
2 = High beam current protection active
3 = Reserved
4 = +5V protection active
5 = Signal Processor (IC 7150) register corrupted
6 = Signal Processor (IC 7150) error
7 = Total failure
8 = Internal RAM error (Microprocessor IC 7000)
10 = NV memory (IC7088) addressing error
11 = NV memory (IC7088) size error
12 = Histogram (YUV) (IC 7770) error
14 = Sound processor I²C error (TDA9855)
16 = Main Tuner I²C error (IC 1125)
17 = PIP Processor I²C error (IC 7350)
18 = PIP Tuner I²C error (IC 1127)
I, too, have the 6 blinks of a red light. I found another person online that suggested that perhaps the power cord was "defective" as it's a common issue. I replaced the power cord with one from an old computer (they're the same cord) and it seems to be OK now. That's all I can offer you at this time.

Screen keeps displaying menu options when that
Hi. I suspect that the remote may be the cause. Remove batteries from the remote and see if the menu appears. If it dosent, I suspect the remote may have had something spilt over it and needs to be cleaned out. Hope this helps you out.

Tv turns on have sound but no picture for ages
If you are ready for some expensive boards you can try to fix or have it fixed. Average boards in this set are well above the average cost of similar parts in other sets, from a person who works in a shop---IF it can be fixed expect well over 200 dollars as a average.

My phillips wont switch back on after a power cut
this may sound dumb but did you have it plugged into a surge protector? if you didn't it may have decided to to toast some stuff inside, if its under warranty i suggest you bring it in, odds are they'll throw a brand new tv at you, if its not you may have to do a little tinkering and crack the tv open to take a look. UNPLUG your tv before you tinker.
