Sounds like a handshake problem with the HDMI outputs on the devices. I have never seen BOTH HDMI inputs have the problem. It could be a problem in the TV where the HDMI signal is processed or the HDMI jacks may have been stressed and this is why you have an intermittent problem. By stressed I mean that the jacks have been bent by inserting the cables wrong or pulling up or down on the cables when they were plugged into the unit.

I would suspect one or more of the miniature flourescent backlight lamps. One way to confirm this would be to power up the set with a grayscale image at 40 to 60 IRE. If one or more lamps is failing to light, a slightly darker horizontal area in the grayscale will give it away. Unfortunately, Sony will not supply any of the backlight components apart from a new LCD panel. Sorry.

On some models, there's a plastic piece which pivots, pushing the actual button itself. If you can take the back panel off and inspect it, you may find you can replace the little piece of plastic with something similar or use super glue to fix the button itself. Or you might be able to swap out the "info" button (or some other button you don't use as much) with the power button

Hook up a computer to it. The tv could have an hdmi connector or monitor connector (check the back of the television to see which type of connectors you have available) so just plug a cable in from your pc to the tv. For sound, a simple computer cable plugs into the headphone jack of the computer to the back of the television. If you have a PC, you may have a series of connectors for stereo surround sound systems (like a sound card). I use a simple jack that plugs into the headphone jack (stereo speaker jack) and also plugs into the pc audio in port on the tv. Now I just select the input (pc) from the sony menu and select the option for sound input and voila. As long as the pc is connected to the internet, your tv is your new monitor.

That tv looks similar to mine with the same base.
Have you pushed the stand fully in and tighten the screws fully.

I must admit,they do not seem really stable on those little stands.
