Need to turn OFF progressive scan on Sony DVD DVP-NS57P

With the remote: While in STOP mode, press the DISPLAY button. Use up/down buttons to select SETUP. Press Enter. Use up/down buttons to select CUSTOM.Press Enter. Use up/down buttons to select SCREEN SETUP. Press Enter. Use up/down buttons to select PROGRESSIVE. Press Enter. The manual is a bit indistinct after this, but I think the prompts will direct you. Just turn Progressive OFF.

DVD player won't read discs

hi Carlos. How do you clean a DVD player? CD and DVD players have a laser lens that needs to be cleaned periodically. To maintain your DVD player, occasionally unscrew the player's case, so you can get at the lens to clean it. You need a screwdriver, canned air or a soft brush, a foam swab or camera-lens cleaner, and lens cleaning fluid from a camera store.

How to Maintain Your DVD Player - dummies

www.dummies.com/home-garden/home.../how-to-maintain-your-dvd-player/ Search for: How do you clean a DVD player? Don't blame your CD or DVD player every time your music or favorite movie starts skipping or refuses to play. The disc may be dirty or scratched. You can purchase a cleaning kit at an electronics store, but rubbing alcohol is a lot cheaper and you can get it at the grocery store or pharmacy. If the problem is dirt or dust, here are some tips for keeping your discs in top condition:
  • When you select a disc to play, the first thing you should do - every single time - is blow dust off, even if you faithfully keep your discs in their sleeves.
  • Next, wipe your discs with a lint-free cloth dampened slightly in rubbing alcohol every time you use them. They not only accumulate dust, but also oily fingerprints that make dust stick.
  • Put your fingers only on the edge and through the center hole.
And if your favorite disc is scratched, before throwing it out, try polishing it to remove the scratch. Disc repair kits are sold at electronics stores and some video stores.

Has anyone ever solved the

Look on the bottom of the unit. There is a hole with the letters ex and op. Shine a light in the hole and you will see a white plastic object with a slot for a slot screwdriver. You can turn this either way but be careful. If you feel resistance and the object does not turn, turn the other direction and the unit will open. Op is open. Ex is exchange.

Another less elegant way is to open the unit's case, take off top cover and get your discs being held inside the unit that way. Be careful.

Of course you could take the unit in for service but may not be worth the cost.

I've fought with this for a while and finally figured it out. I recall another piece of hardware that would perform some sort of auto reset when it was unplugged so I tried it and it worked! I don't mean just hitting the power button, I mean crawling down on your hands and knees to follow the power cord from the back of the dvd player to the wall/power strip. Unplug it, wait a few seconds and plug it back in. BAM! All fixed.

Stuck in "loading" mode

Hello,

how long have you been using this player and when did this begin?

Remove the disc and try another. If the player refuses to eject the disc, remove it from the wall and fix it back and fix it back again. Then turn the player on.

If the player still gets stuck on "loading" mode for other disc, then it means the laser is weak.

The lens is weak such that it cannot load data on discs. Its spinning, trying to load, but can't because of the weak laser.

Get a lens cleaner, use it to clean the lens. If that doesn't solve the problem, get a screw driver, open the player's cover so that you can gain access to the lens, use a cotton board to clean the surface of the lens. This should clean dust or dirt that might be on the lens.

If non of the above solves the problem, then know that you need to replace the laser to a brand new one.

To replace the lens, remove the bad laser, use it as a sample to get exactly the same type and do the replacement. Note that replacing a laser (lens) needs a professional touch, so if you cannot replace the laser, get it to a repairman to fix it for you.

Once this us done, your player will play all discs again.

Good luck.

Disc is stuck on playhead,

No way but to open the cover the mechanism and remove from the drive of the mechanism.
If the power is present, then check the loading motor drive mechanism , checkthe drive IC for fault.
If not check the power from the SMPS and rectify.
If not the board can be faulty.

SONY DVP- NC85H

I am getting this error too and I believe it means that somehow the tray that the discs ride on is jammed. I think if you unscrew the three screws on the back and the two on the sides you can pop the top off and see the tray. I bet there is a disc somewhere that didn't fall back into its right spot and it will give you that error... I just opened mine up and sure enough there was a DVD that was in the way... I removed that disc and the error went away. I hope that helps you out as well.

Player won't load any discs

I don't have a solution at this time. I have the same DVD player and mine stopped working this past weekend. It is doing the same thing as yours. I opened the case and loaded a disc and watched the mechanism. The disc won't spin. if you tap the disc it will start spinning and load and start playing. I thought I had fully fixed it. It will load most times but now the video and audio stutters as if the discs is spinning at varying rates.
