1.you can reset your password to a newer one by running your comp in safe mode !!!
OR
2.you can re-install the windows.

Darkened screen as you describe indicates a failing inverter. You can test this easily by plugging the laptop into an external monitor, if this works ok, then the inverter needs replaced, If it does not work, the problem is with the graphics chip / motherboard
Reboot and hit F2 to go into Setup, and make sure the mouse setting is set to touchpad. If this doesn't work then you might wanna check if the driver is installed and working correctly. Also if you updated from windows 200 to xp or newer you won't find any driver for it.
Shut it off completely by pressng the start button and keep pressing. Restart normally. If necessary take out the battery and external power supply. It should restart after power is reconnected.
there should be a video output on that laptop. hook it up to an external monitor and use the keyboard combination of keys to toggle on the external monitor and watch to see if you get the same issue
