Why is my dell d610 not connecting to my wireless connection

  • Check that the laptop's "wireless disable/enable" switch is in the enabled position
  • Check that the computer is actively searching for a wireless network.
  • Ensure the settings on your computer match that of the router, for example, make sure a thunderstorm didn't knock out power which knocked out power to the router, which forgot its settings. If this is the case, you'd need to re-load those settings.
  • Check that the broadcast unit for your wireless, the jetpack or the router, is powered on and sending a signal.
  • Reboot (complete power off and power back on). If the wireless now works, disable your operating systems' power management for your laptop's wireless card.
Good luck

Dell D610 nothing but background image

Hi.The laptop seems to have a problem with explorer not loading properly (this is the program which loads up the taskbar, icons etc)Hold down Ctrl, Alt and press the delete key. Dependent on the operating system it will either go to list or load up Task Manager, ether way you need Task Manager. When Task Manager loads up in the top left corner of the window you will see File, click on that and select New Task (run), click on that and in the box type explorer and click OK, The desktop should now load up. After that make sure you perform a system restore by clicking on the start menu, accessories, system tools, system restore and take the laptop back to a time before this happened.Regards.

You would need to edit the registry. Start up the registry and do a search for the name is currently has and all you need to do is change this. In Windows XP the Reg Key is My Computer\HKey_Local_Machine\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersionThe key should be roughly the same in later versions of Windows.

No sound on my dell latituded610 after u

Windows 7 has a known issue of not always finding the correct audio driver. If you go to the device manager, you'll probably find a red "X" next to the audio section.Go to the Dell website, find your product, and look at drivers and downloads. You may have to download the XP driver and force it to use it. Optiplex 520's have this problem, so I've seen it happen. Best of luck!

Problem with the ON/OFF button

The power button is the only way to turn it on. Remove the plastic strip that contains the power button, do this by lifting up at one end, it will then pull up and off. Then you'll see the power button on the board, try pressing this button. If it starts normally, then the button on the plastic strip isn't making a good contact with the button on the board, replace the strip. If it still doesn't turn on, then power button on the board is faulty and will need to be replaced. You can find the plastic strip on Ebay for a decent price. The power switch on the board is harder to find. Most sellers on Ebay leave this attached to the motherboard when they sell a parts machine, you're best bet is a shop that deals with used or refurbished laptops.

Will not turn on

If your laptop won't turn on, you could have any number of problems.

The problem might be a genuine power issue derived from either battery failure or simply a loose AC adapter.

Conversely, it may only appear to be a power failure, and the problem may lie with another component.

Errors in brightness settings and LCD display malfunctions can both make a laptop appear to be powered off, and all these problems will need to be corrected.

Look at the battery indicator light on your computer.

Is it on?

If so, check your brightness settings.

If your laptop appears that it is not on, it may in actuality have lowered brightness settings.

If the brightness setting is at its lowest setting, the laptop screen will be completely dark, and the laptop will appear to be powered off, even though it is not.

Try cranking up the brightness settings.

Check your AC power adapter.

Is it snugly plugged into the wall or surge protector?

Make sure the connection is made and it is not loose.

Also, try connecting the power adapter into a different wall outlet.

Check the status of your laptop battery by considering how long you have had the same battery.

Most modern batteries are only good for about 1,000 full charges.

After that point, the battery can and eventually will greatly deteriorate.

Replace your battery if necessary.

Replace your battery by powering off your laptop and then flipping it over and locating the battery cover outline, which will be near the bottom back of your laptop.

Remove any screws with a Phillips screwdriver and pop off the battery cover.

Slide out the old battery.

Put in the new battery by sliding it in until it clicks, and then replace the cover.

Consider replacing your laptop monitor.

Your laptop may power on, but if the monitor display does not work, it will appear to be off and you will not be able to operate the machine.

Check to see if your current LCD display works by plugging your laptop up to an external monitor using a VGA cable.

If the external monitor displays your computer contents, your computer motherboard and underlying systems are still working, but your display will need to be replaced.

Replace an LCD display by removing the screws around the bezel of your current display with a Phillips screwdriver.

Pop off the bezel carefully and remove it.

Then, locate the screws on the two metal brackets beneath the bezel and on either side of the display, and remove these too.

Disconnect the inverter cable, which is plugged into the inverter.

The inverter is located just beneath the display, at the bottom-center of the laptop.

Then, pull back and slide out the old display, and replace it with the new.

Put the metal bracket screws back in place, reconnect the inverter cable, and then pop the bezel in place.

Replace the bezel screws.

hope this helps

Wont turn on

Computer does not boot up The problem maybe the RAM, it is faulty or just needs reseating to make proper electrical contact. Reseat the RAM and then boot up your laptop. If it still does not boot up then remove the RAM module/s and take them to your friendly computer repair shop and get them to test the RAM for you. Just like you sometimes need a mechanic to repair your car, sometimes you do need a technician to diagnose and identify the fault or faults on your computer. Not only does a good service technican have the experience to deal with this type of problem, they also have the equipment that allows them to look at things the average computer user can't see, and he has a collection of replacement parts that can be used to quickly test individual components on your computer.

Black screen

1) Which software did you remove?2) Is the machine running, but you just cannot see anything, or is it totally dead? Any sounds, humming, drives turning, lights flashing? If it is not dead, try plugging in an external screen. To get the screen to work, you may have to press Fn5 I think (has a picture of two screens on the key). If the signal goes to the external screen, try pressing a couple of times more and see if it cycles back to the laptop's own screen. If the screen does not wake up, but the external one works, your screen needs looking at. If under warranty, take it back, otherwise it will be up to you to decide whether to spend on fixing it or splurging on a new one. You could of course just turn the laptop into a deskbound machine using the external screen, and spend the money on something else.

Hi, the headphone jack is not

Does the main speakers work on the laptop? as you know when the headphones are plugged in, the internal speakers turn off. If the laptop speakers are fine then you have a problem with the ear phone jack, it needs to be replaced, or part of the original has broken free of the motherboard and needs to be resold-ed. If on the other hand you have no sound at all, the ear phone jack has comletely broken free or the audio ic is the problem. Regardless of the issues the laptop needs to be dis-assembled to address the problem.
